By the Numbers: Christoffer Ehn

By the Numbers will highlight the Red Wings' on-ice accomplishments in the 2019-20 season. Each week during the offseason, By the Numbers will profile a different player on the team, focusing on his statistical highs. This week we focus on center Christoffer Ehn.

When Christoffer Ehn made the Red Wings' roster out of training camp and preseason in 2018, it was a little bit of a surprise.
After all, it was Ehn's first season in North America and he had been a fourth-round pick, 106th overall, in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.
But the Wings appreciated Ehn's defense-first mindset, his size, his intelligence and his even-keeled temperament.
Even in the face of the team's struggles this past season and serving as a healthy scratch in some games, Ehn never wavered.
His work ethic and willingness to learn remained and Ehn kept his focus on trying to improve on a daily basis, rather than on the results that sometimes didn't come.
Moving forward, although the Wings are not counting on Ehn to provide a lot of offense, he can still take some more shots and think a little bit more about that aspect of his game.
Ehn can also get better on the draw, which would take some of the burden off of Dylan Larkin and Luke Glendening, particularly in penalty kill situations.
With the end of the 2019-20 season, Ehn's three-year entry-level contract is complete and he is now an unrestricted free agent that the team will look to sign soon.
54 - Ehn played in 54 games during the 2019-20 season, six fewer than he played the previous season.

100 - On Feb. 1, Ehn played in his 100th career NHL game in a 1-0 loss to the New York Rangers at Little Caesars Arena, the same game in which Valtteri Filppula reached 1,000 games. Ehn finished the season with 114.
2- In his 54 games, Ehn recorded two goals and two assists. The first goal came Dec. 10 in a 5-1 loss at Winnipeg. Ehn's goal at 7:39 of the second period tied the game at the time, 1-1. Ehn also scored in the final game of the season, a 5-2 home loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Ehn scored at 15:26 of the second, which tied the game at the time, 2-2. Ehn also had two penalty minutes.

36 - Ehn recorded 36 shots over the course of the season, 13 fewer than he had in the 2018-19 season. Larkin led the team with 223 shots.
10:25- Ehn averaged 10:25 of ice time, just 12 seconds less than he averaged the previous season.
18- Known more as a defensive player, Ehn had 18 blocked shots during the season. Defenseman Patrik Nemeth led the team with 92 blocks. Glendening led all forwards with 68 blocks.
59 - At 6-foot-3, 195 pounds, Ehn is big enough to take on most forwards and had 59 hits during the season. Glendening led the Wings with 147.
42.5- Although Ehn is not called upon to take the majority of the draws, he does take quite a few and finished with a face-off winning percentage of 42.5. Of those who took more than 34, Glendening led the way at 56.1 percent.
