Bedford wins Wings' Build-A-Beard Contest

by Staff Writer / Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT -- Congratulations to Bedford Elementary School in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, for being chosen as the winning school in the Red Wings' 2009 “Build-A-Beard” contest.

In cooperation with the Red Wings' 2009 playoff campaign -- “The Beard is Back” -- schools from around the area were encouraged to create their own playoff beards. Students built beards out of construction paper, cotton balls, yarn, and other creative materials found in the classroom. Each school then sent in pictures or videos displaying their playoff beards and their pride for the Red Wings.

As the winner of the contest, Bedford Elementary will receive a Little Caesars Pizza Party, a 2009 team autographed Winter Classic poster for their school, and a day with the Runnin’ Red Wings program. Second- and third-place winners will each receive a day with the Runnin’ Red Wings program.

1st Place –  Bedford Elementary School in Dearborn Heights, Mich.
2nd Place – Bennie Elementary in Allen Park, Mich.
3rd Place –  Flanders Elementary in Farmington, Mich.
                      Jefferson Elementary in Redford, Mich.
