Alumni-signing for annual Toys for Tots

by Christy Hammond / Detroit Red Wings

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings will host an autograph signing benefiting the team’s annual Toys for Tots collection on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 2-4 p.m. EST with Hockey Hall of Famer Alex Delvecchio and Grind Line favorites Kris Draper and Kirk Maltby at Hockeytown Authentics in Troy, Mich.

Fans can get one item signed by each of the three alumni, who all played more than 1,000 career NHL games, with either a minimum $30 monetary donation (cash or check) or by donating a new, unwrapped toy of equal value. Fans are encouraged to bring toys suitable for children ages one to twelve. Representatives from the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve will be on hand to collect donated toys, which will then be distributed to needy children in Metro Detroit around the holidays. All monetary donations will be used to purchase additional toys.

Hockeytown Authentics will issue wristbands for the autograph signing starting at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. A maximum of 500 wristbands will be handed out prior to 2 p.m. on Saturday and those who receive wristbands may begin to line up for the autograph signing no earlier than 1 p.m. A wristband will get fans one autograph from each of the three former Red Wings players, who have won a combined 11 Stanley Cup titles for the organization.

In addition to the Toys for Tots donations, fans will have the opportunity to donate $1 or $5 in support of the Detroit Red Wings Foundation at Hockeytown Authentics during the holiday season. Donations can be made at the register and are tax deductible as allowed by law.

For more information, please call Hockeytown Authentics at 248-680-0965. Hockeytown Authentics is located at 1845 East Big Beaver Road on the northwest corner of Big Beaver and John R in Troy.
