Almquist, Mrazek returned to Griffins

DETROIT – The Detroit Red Wings today assigned defenseman Adam Almquist and goaltender Petr Mrazek to the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins.

Almquist, 23, has skated in 60 games with the Griffins this season, placing second on the team with 45 points (4-41-45). He ranks third among all AHL defensemen in scoring and is tied for third in the league in assists. The Huskvarna, Sweden native made his NHL debut with Detroit on Nov. 4 and scored his first NHL goal in his second game with the club, Nov. 7 versus Dallas. In 131 career AHL games, the 5-foot-11, 173-lb., blueliner has tallied 76 points (14-62-76) and 86 penalty minutes. He also recorded 10 points (3-7-10) in 21 games during Grand Rapids’ Calder Cup run in 2013. Originally drafted by Detroit in the seventh round (210th overall) of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, Almquist registered 35 points (5-30-35) in 122 SHL games with HV-71 prior to making the move to North America.

Mrazek

A native of Ostrava, Czech Republic, Mrazek has made 24 appearances for the Griffins this season, ranking among AHL leaders with 18 wins (T16th), a 2.01 goals against average (1st), a 0.928 save percentage (T1st) and three shutouts (T8th). The 22-year-old netminder has played in eight games with Detroit this season, posting a 1-4-0 record, a 2.01 goals against average and a 0.916 save percentage. Originally drafted by Detroit in the fifth round (141st overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, he helped the Griffins to a Calder Cup championship as a first year pro, going 23-16-2 with a 2.33 goals against average and a 0.916 save percentage in 42 regular-season games. He played every minute of the team’s 24 postseason contests, sporting a 15-9 record, a 2.31 goals against average and a 0.916 save percentage.

Sitting one point back of the Eastern Conference’s final wild card spot, the Red Wings (31-24-13) will host the Pittsburgh Penguins tonight (Thursday) at 7:30 p.m. (FOX Sports Detroit/97.1 The Ticket).
