Wolf Pack strike back on road, force Game 7

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

Chris Holt stopped 29 shots Thursday night as the Rangers' top minor-pro affiliate, the Hartford Wolf Pack won Game 6 of their first-round series to avoid elimination in the AHL's Calder Cup playoffs.

Colby Genoway, Greg Moore and Chad Wiseman scored for the Pack in a 3-1 road win over the Manchester Monarchs in Manchester, N.H. The victory forced a deciding game Saturday night at the Hartford Civic Center. The winner will advance to the Atlantic Division finals.

Holt, who played one period for the Rangers at Washington earlier this season, had been pressed into his first professional playoff appearance after Al Montoya suffered an injury in the first period of Game 5 and Robert Gherson struggled as his replacement.

The Wolf Pack has trailed in the series three times yet rallied back to tie it up each time.

Holt, a rookie out of the University of Nebraska-Omaha, stopped 12 shots in the first period and 10 in the third. Holt was 3-2-1 in nine games with Hartford during the regular season.

Former Ranger Alexandre Daigle scored the lone Monarchs goal, his fourth of the series.
