With eight games left in the regular season, the Hartford Wolf Pack clinched a playoff berth for their eighth straight year with a 3-2 overtime victory over the Portland Pirates this evening at the Hartford Civic Center.
The Pack has had a berth in the Calder Cup playoffs every year since its inception. The team now continues its fight for position in the very tight Atlantic Division - still four points behind Manchester, who beat Springfield tonight 3-2 also in overtime. The Lowell Lock Monsters, who the Pack plays tomorrow night, are eight points behind Hartford, after their loss to Providence tonight.
The win also set a new franchise record for wins at home -- 28, which surpasses the Calder Cup winning 1999-2000 Wolf Pack mark of 27 home wins.
This year, the Calder Cup playoffs will begin with a seven game divisional semi-final series that will lead straight to the Divisional Finals. Playoff strips of tickets are on sale now with prices for adults starting under $200 for the entire strip (16 games). Individual tickets for round one will go on sale shortly. Ticket strips can be purchased by calling the Hartford Wolf Pack ticket office at (860) 548-2000. The Wolf Pack's next home game is next Saturday, April 9 versus the Providence Bruins. Game time is 7:05 p.m. The Calder Cup will be on display at the game.
