WJC Flashback - 1991: Bure Sets Goals Mark

Rangers forward Pavel Bure scored 12 goals in seven games for Russia during the 1991 World Junior Championship, tying the record for goals in a single tournament (since broken by Markus Naslund – 13 in 1993). The winger finished third in the 1991 tournament with 15 points (12 goals, three assists) to help lead Russia to a Silver medal finish. Bure is also the leading goal scorer in WJC history with 27.

The Russian Rocket ranks third on the WJC all-time scoring list with 39 points (27 goals, 12 assists) in 21 career games.

Russia has posted a 144-33-12 all-time mark in 189 WJC games, leading all nations with 25 medals, including 14 gold. The inaugural tournament took place in 1974

RANGERS / WJC NOTES:
* Eric Lindros ranks 10th on the all-time tournament scoring list, notching 12 goals and 19 assists for 31 points in 21 games with Team Canada … Lindros ranks fourth on the WJC all-time assists list with 19.

* The Czechoslovakian line of Bobby Holik, Jaromir Jagr and Robert Reichel netted 50 points during the 1990 WJC in Finland, ranking third on the all-time list for most points scored by a line in a single tournament … Holik registered six goals and five assists for 11 points, tying for fourth among all players.

* Jamie Lundmark tied for seventh among all players with seven points (four goals, three assists) in the 2001 tournament for Canada.
