Rangers prospect Ethan Werek, a center selected by the Blueshirts in the second round of the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, was among the 41 players invited to attend Canada's World Junior Championship Development Camp on Friday

Werek, an alternate captain and second-leading scorer on the OHL's Kingston Frontenacs last season, is one of 24 forwards who will compete for 13 slots on the final roster for the 2011 World Juniors at Buffalo. The Canadian camp will take place during the month of August in St. John's, Newfoundland. Exact dates have not been set.

Coming off a 30-goal and 64-point season for the Frontenacs, Werek ranked among the top OHL scorers for much of last season before injuries limited him to 57 games. Werek, who also had five points in six playoff games, is scheduled to attend the annual Rangers Prospect Development Camp later this month.

Five members of Canada's 2010 World Junior Championship team, which fell to Team USA in the gold-medal game at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, will be taking part at the World Junior Development Camp with Werek in August. The group includes NHL 2009 first-round draft picks Jared Cowen, Ryan Ellis, Calvin de Haan and Brayden Schenn, as well as 2010 draft prospect Taylor Hall.
