The New York Rangers announced today that defenseman Vladimir Malakhov underwent successful surgery to repair a torn labrum in his left shoulder. The surgery was performed by Dr. Jeff Abrams at Princeton Orthopedic Associates Surgical Suite. The rehabilitation process for Malakhov will begin immediately and is expected to last three months.
Malakhov, 34, appeared in 71 games this season, registering three goals and 14 assists for 17 points, along with 52 penalty minutes. He missed seven contests during the 2002-03 regular season due to the injury, including the final five games.
