The New York Rangers announced today that defenseman Vladimir Malakhov will undergo reconstructive anterior cruciate ligament surgery on Friday, December 1 to repair an anterior cruciate ligament tear in his left knee. The procedure will be performed by team physicians Dr. Barton Nisonson and Dr. Tony Maddalo at Lennox Hill Hospital. Malakhov sustained the initial injury in the Rangers season opening contest against the Atlanta Thrashers on October 7.
Malakhov, 32, has registered two assists in three games this season. The 6-4, 230-pound defenseman has collected 70 goals and 203 assists for 273 points, along with 481 penalty minutes in 469 career games played over nine NHL seasons.
