Rangers head coach John Tortorella and San Jose Sharks head coach Todd McLellan will be co-coaches of the NHL All-Star Game team captained by Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson.
Tortorella and McLellan earned All-Star coaching honors for leading their respective conferences in points percentage through the midpoint of the 2011-12 regular season on Monday, Jan. 9.
As a coach of Team Alfredsson, Tortorella is assured of having Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist
on his squad. The day after Tortorella was assigned to the team, Lundqvist was named its assistant captain -- giving him a chance to help Alfredsson choose the players that Tortorella and McLellan will coach.
The other team, captained by Boston's Zdeno Chara, will be led by the coaching staff of Chara's Bruins team -- head coach Claude Julien and his assistants (Doug Houda, Doug Jarvis and Geoff Ward).
The coaching assignments for the Jan. 29 game were announced by the league Friday.
Julien and his staff were named as All-Star coaches as a reward for guiding the Bruins to the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship.
