The New York Rangers Support NHL Green

The ability to skate and play the game outdoors is a critical component of the NHL's history and culture. Major environmental challenges, such as climate change and freshwater scarcity, affect future opportunities for hockey players of all ages to take the game outside. This is why the New York Rangers and NHL are committed to improving hockey's environmental impact - and to helping catalyze a larger movement toward a healthier planet.
Over the course of the year we partake in a variety of programs to support environmental changes and challenges.

MSG Rock and Wrap It Up

Madison Square Garden and the New York Rangers love teaming up with Rock and Wrap It Up! Throughout its growth, Sports Wrap! has raised awareness that arenas and sports events can fight hunger and lower their carbon footprint by donating their prepared but not served food to local anti-poverty agencies. Thus far in the 2017-2018 season, we've donated over 5,550 lbs. of food, that serves 4,633.15 meals. Additionally, we have reduced the carbon footprint by 2,030.18 lbs. CO2e.

Green Sports Alliance

The Green Sports Alliance leverages the cultural and market influence of sports to promote healthy, sustainable communities where people live and play. As a member of the Green Sports Alliance, Madison Square Garden continues to look for ways to minimize the environmental impact the arena has. Over the years, The Garden has embraced several environmentally friendly practices including waste reduction & recycling, food recovery, materials reduction, usage of environmentally preferable materials, water conservation, and energy conservation/efficiency. Centennial Fan Tour "Recycle the Game" Equipment Drive

This past December, during our Centennial Fan Arena Experience in Madison Square Park, youth hockey teams and Rangers families came to visit the Stanley Cup and donate their used hockey equipment.

Winter Classic Legacy Project

In January, New York Rangers legend Mike Richter, supported the Winter Classic Legacy project by providing new LED lighting for the renovated WHEDco Leadership Center in the Bronx. Richter says, "When you talk about energy efficiency, Brightcore Energy is putting in a new technology into the youth center that looks better, lasts longer and is cheaper to run," Richter said. "It will pay for itself in the next decade and a half."
