Linda Enright thought she was just coming to catch an afternoon of hockey at Madison Square Garden. What she left with was a great deal more.
During the intermission of today's SuperSkate V celebrity hockey game, Linda Enright came out on top as the winner of the Toyota SuperSkills Challenge thanks to some sharp-shooting from Rangers captain Mark Messier and alumnus Glenn Anderson. As the grand prize winner, Enright won a brand new 2003 Toyota 4Runner.
Three contestants were randomly chosen from a group of raffle tickets buyers who had purchased tickets throughout the afternoon for a chance to win the truck. Each of the three contestants were then randomly paired with a current Rangers player as well as an alumni to participate in a Shooting Accuracy skills event. Each player was given eight shots to hit four targets - one in each corner of the net.
Messier and Anderson, former teammates for many years with the Edmonton Oilers as well as on the 1994 Rangers Stanley Cup championship squad, each buried four targets in five attempts. This was more than enough for Enright, who was paired with the duo, to win the 4Runner.
The other pairings consisted of Bobby Holik/Rod Gilbert and Matthew Barnaby/Ron Duguay.
"I can't believe this is happening," said a speachless Enright after winning. "This whole experience is just mindblowing. I'm at a loss for words just thinking about it."
The native of Monore, New York ironically had just been talking about beginning a search for a new car on the ride to MSG that morning with her husband and kids. Her current lease is set to expire in the near future.
"I was so nervous standing out there when they (Mark and Glenn) were shooting, and even more nervous watching the others shoot. When they told me to gather for the winning photo next to the car, I just couldn't belive what had just happened. It's really unbelievable."
Well, believe it Linda! And again, congratulations.
