See the Prague Opener in Czech Atmosphere!

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers
Wish you could be in Prague to watch the Blueshirts open the 2008-09 regular season vs. Tampa Bay today? The Rangers and MSG invite you to experience the next best view of the game during an exclusive big-screen, high-definition (HD) viewing party at the Bohemian Beer Garden in Astoria, Queens.

Even the entryway to the Beer Garden suggests the feeling of being in Prague.
At the Beer Garden, a popular nightspot for New Yorkers of Czech and Slovak ancestry, as well as immigrants and tourists, you’ll get a true Czech feeling for the game.

The event is open to the public and free of charge.

The Beer Garden’s origins date back to the late 1800s and the growth of a large Czech and Slovak immigrant community in Astoria. These people raised the funds to build Bohemian Hall, and its Beer Garden has been a popular gathering place since opening in 1919.

At one time, over 800 beer gardens like Bohemian Hall were in New York City -- three in Astoria alone. Bohemian Hall and Park, however, is the last remaining establishment that features this proud Czech and Slovak tradition.

The HD viewing party is being hosted by the Rangers organization and MSG, and will be co-hosted by MSG's Jill Martin and Rangers great Ron Duguay. Former Ranger Nick Fotiu will also be on hand, along with MSG Music Director Ray Castoldi, who will create an in-arena atmosphere with Rangers music.

The festivities open at 11:30 a.m. today and continue through the end of the game.

Fans attending this free event will be eligible to enter a raffle for two tickets to the Rangers home opener vs. Chicago on Oct. 10 as well as a Rangers gift bag and visit to the MSG broadcast booth. Other prizes include an autographed stick and gift bags for fans who can answer Rangers trivia questions.

The Bohemian Beer Garden is located at 29-19 24th Ave. in Astoria, Queens. For more information on the Bohemian Hall and Beer Garden, visit its official website.
