Rangers Youth Hockey Camp: Week 4 Day 1

On Ice AM Sessions: This morning’s on ice session emphasized the importance of skating skills and techniques. Topics that were focused on were stops and starts, transitions, maneuverability in tight areas and puck protection.

On Ice PM Sessions: New York Ranger alumni Steve Valiquette joined players for this afternoon’s on ice session. The main focus for this session was power skating. Players practiced skating agility, tight turns and 360 turns. Players also got a chance to play games such as 2-on-2, 3-on-3 with a coach and Sharks and Minnows. Goaltenders focused on butterfly movement and post recovery.

Dynamic Training: The dynamic training session this morning focused on explosiveness, acceleration and balance. Players participated in drills, such as jumping from one foot to another with one foot always off the ground, to help them improve these attributes.

Classroom Presented by Kumon: Today’s topic of discussion was the five main food groups. Players discussed the different types of food groups and which foods belong to which groups. The players learned the importance of eating balanced meals throughout the day.

Off Ice: Today’s off ice session focused on stick handling. Players got a chance to practice stick handling with your head looking up while standing still and in motion.
