Rangers Youth Hockey Camp: Week 2 Day 3

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

On Ice AM Sessions: Today’s morning session started with reviewing passing from the day before. Players practiced shooting while skating, stick handling through cones, 1v1 and 2v2 in other stations. They also got to practice their odd man advantages skills with a power play game. Goaltenders focused on developing their skating as well as movement in the butterfly during both morning and afternoon sessions. Players got a big surprise when Dan Boyle, one of the newest New York Rangers players, stopped by to meet all of the kids during their morning sessions.

On Ice PM Sessions: New York Rangers Alumni Nick Fotiu joined the players for this afternoon’s session. The afternoon session’s main focus was shooting the puck. Players worked on their snap shots, but also practiced tipping, deflections and rebounds in other stations.

Off Ice Training: Players were able to practice passing during today’s off-ice session. Players participated in drills that helped them improve their accuracy, release and control while passing. They also practiced passing while stick handling and moving at the same time.

Dynamic Training: Today’s training session revolved around doing drills that included either work out ladders or hurdles,  practicing quick feet and agility. Ladder drills involved one step, two step, and two feet in and out of the boxes. Hurdle drills involved jumping over with one foot, two feet, side to side and transitioning around the hurdle front to back to front.

Classroom Presented by Kumon: Players reviewed what they learned about eating properly and hydration. Then they learned about the different types of exercise, how much sleep you should be getting at night and the importance of rest after physical activities.
