RANGERS WEEKLY PROSPECT UPDATE - March 29, 2005

HARTFORD WOLF PACK:
Last week the Wolf Pack captured three of a possible four points, but remain five points behind the division leading Manchester Monarchs, who clinched a berth in the playoffs this weekend. Hartford sports a record of 43-21-3-3 for 92 points, good for fourth overall in the league. The team is 26-13-1-3 against divisional rivals, which will be put to the test in three intra-divisional games this week.

Goaltenders Steve Valiquette and Jason LaBarbera remain one and two in the standings for best goals against, with 1.75 and 1.86 respectively. The netminders have 12 shutouts between them. Lawrence Nycholat is ninth overall in defeseman scoring (5-35-40) and leads blueliners in shootout goals with 6 on 9 tries. Jeff Hamilton is tied with two others in the AHL for most game winning goals with 10.


SWEDEN:
Henrik Lundqvist (Frolunda) - Lundqvist's and Frolunda's dominance continues through the 2004-'05 post-season...After sweeping Lulea in the first round, they discarded of Djurgardens in 5 games, capped off by Lundqvist's 3rd shutout of the post-season in Game 5 ... Lundqvist has stopped 240 of 251 shots so far this post-season, while compiling an 8-1 record with a GAA of 1.20 and a Save % of .956... Lundqvist has recorded 3 shutouts thus far, a 5-0 victory in Game 2 of the First Round over Lulea, a 1-0 victory against Djurgardens in Game 3, and a 4-0 victory to wrap up the series in Game 5 against Djurgardens...Frolunda advances to the Finals of the Swedish Elite League and will take on Farjestads BK beginning April 3rd...Finished the regulgar season ranking amongst the Swedish Elite league goaltending leaders in several categories, including saves ( 1145, third), save percentage (..936, first), wins (33, first), goal against average (1.79, first), shutouts (6, first) and minutes played (2641:51, second).


QUEBEC MAJOR JUNIOR HOCKEY LEAGUE:
Jonathan Paiement (Lewiston) - In his first two playoff games recorded back-to-back multi-point games, netting a goal and assist in Game One, a 4-1 win, and registering 2 assists in Game Two, also a 4-1 win...Lewiston leads their series 2-0...Paiement finished the regular season ranking 3rd amongst all QMJHL defensemen with 51 assists and ranks 4th with 62 points...Ranked second on his team with 51 assists and third on his team with 62 points & 198 penalty minutes.

Bruce Graham (Moncton) - Graham has registered one assist in his first two playoff games, both wins for Moncton as they take a 2-0 series lead over Drummondville...Graham finished the regular season appearing in 47 games and recording 23 goals, 19 assists, 42 points, and 56 penalty minutes


ONTARIO HOCKEY LEAGUE:
Jakub Petruzalek (Ottawa) - Petruzalek has recorded one assist and 2 penalty minutes in his first 2 playoff games with Ottawa thus far...Ottawa has split their first two games against Barrie, winning Game 1, 5-4, and dropping Game 2, 4-1... Petruzalek was amongst team leaders in multiple offensive categories throughout his rookie season, including goals (22; T-5th), assists (40, 1st) and points (62, 2nd)...His 62 points ranked him 2nd amongst OHL rookies, while his 40 assists led all OHL rookies

Ryan Callahan (Guelph) - Callahan has registered 1 goal, 1 assist, 2 points, and 4 penalty minutes in 3 playoff games so far, as Guelph is on the brink of elimination, trailing the league's most prolific team this year, London, 3-0... Callahan ranked 1st on his team with 28 goals and 54 points during the 2004-'05 regular season while adding 26 assists to go along with 108 penalty minutes in 60 games played


WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:
Zdenek Bahensky (Saskatoon) - Appeared in three games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs... Saskatoon trails the best of seven series, 0-3. Ranked ninth points scored by rookies in the WHL with 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists). Ranked second on the team with four short-handed goals and tied for seventh on the team with 14 goals. Tied for third in the WHL with four short-handed goals.

Ivan Baranka (Everett) - Appeared in two games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs... Everett is tied with Portland, 1-1. Registered seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points, along with 64 penalty minutes in 64 games during the regular season.

Dane Byers (Prince Albert) - Recorded a three-game point streak from Mar. 11 to Mar. 15, registering four points (two goals, two assists). Scored in four of his last five contests to end the season, with five points (three goals, two assists). Ranks second on his team with 181 penalty minutes. Dane skated in 65 contests so far this season, tallying 20 points (eleven goals, nine assists). Saskatoon Blades will face the Prince Albert Raiders (Byers, Kozak) in Series B of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, beginning Mar. 23.

Rick Kozak (Prince Albert) - Appeared in three games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs, scoring two points (two goals). Named 1st star of the game on Mar. 26 (W 3-0). Prince Albert leads the best of seven series, 3-0. He ranked first on his team with 185 penalty minutes. Registered 14 goals and 13 assists for 27 points, along with 185 penalty minutes in 51 games for Prince Albert.

Roman Psurny (Medicine Hat) - Appeared in two games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs. Medicine Hat is tied in the best of seven series, 1-1. Among WHL rookies, ranked third in scoring with 49 points, third with 21 goals and first with a +27 rating. Ranked tied for fourth in scoring on his team with 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists).

Marcus Jonasen (Tri-City) - Appeared in two games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs, scoring two points (two assists). Tri-City trails the best of seven series, 2-0. Ranked first on the team with 21 goals and is fifth on the club with 41 points.

Brandon Dubinsky (Portland) - Appeared in two games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs, scoring four points (three goals, one assist). Named 1st star of the game on Mar. 25 vs. Everett (W 3-0). Named 3rd star on Mar. 27 (L 1-2). Portland is tied in the best of seven series, 1-1. On Portland, he ranked fourth in goals (23), second in assists (36), tied for third in points (59) and second in penalty minutes (160).

Nigel Dawes (Kootenay) - Appeared in two games during the 04' - 05' WHL Playoffs, scoring two points (one goal, one assist). Named 1st star of the game on Mar. 26 vs. Kamloops (W 3-2). Kootenay is tied in the best of seven series, 1-1. Ended the regular season with a 20-game point streak from Feb. 5 to March 19, scoring 33 points (24 goals, nine assists). Ranked 2nd in the WHL with 50 goals and first with 14 game-winning goals. Ranked first on his team with team with 50 goals and 18 power play goals.


CZECH REPUBLIC:
Petr Prucha (Pardubice) - Appeared in 7 games during the '04-'05 Extra League first round, scoring four points (two goals, two assists). Pardubice won the best of seven series vs. Kladno, 4-3. They have advanced to the Semifinals to play Liberec, beginning on Mar. 22. Appeared in four games during the Extra League Semifinals, scoring two points (one goal, two assists). Pardubice leads the best of seven series vs. Liberec, 3-1. Has skated in 47 games, notching 17 points (7 goals, 10 assists) and 24 penalty minutes.


NCAA:
Al Montoya (Michigan) - Montoya and Michigan took the CCHA regular season title, along with the CCHA's Super Six Tournament title but was ousted in the second round of the NCAA tournament by Colorado College after surrendering 4 unanswered goals in the 4-3 loss...In 6 games during the 2004-2005 post-season, Montoya compiled a record of 5-1 with a GAA of 1.67, a Save % of .912, and one shutout ... Montoya and Michigan enter the NCAA Tournament ranked 2nd in the Midwest Region...Montoya finished the season ranked 5th in the CCHA with a GAA of 2.69, and 9th in saves with 737

Dylan Reese (Harvard) - Appeared in 4 games during the '04-'05 postseason, advancing to the finals of the ECAC playoffs vs. Cornell. Harvard was the #3 seed in the Northeast Region of the NCAA Tournament. Harvard was defeated by NH (3-2 OT) in the NCAA Northeast Regional Semifinal (Amherst, MA). Ranked tied for first among team defensemen with five goals and 16 points. Ranked tied for fifth on team with 16 points.

Greg Moore (Maine) - Appeared in 3 games during the '04-'05 Hockey East Playoffs, scoring two points (one goal, one assist). Boston College upended Maine in the semifinals (1-2, double ot). Maine was the #4 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. Maine was defeated 0-1 in the NCAA West Regional Semifinal (Minneapolis, MN). Ranked first on his team with 13 goals, ranks first with nine power-play goals, and tied for third with 21 points.

Billy Ryan (Maine) - Appeared in 3 games during the '04-'05 Hockey East Playoffs, scoring one point (one goal). Boston College upended Maine in the semifinals (1-2, double ot). Maine was the #4 seed in the West Region of the NCAA Tournament. They faced Minnesota on Mar. 26. Maine was defeated 0-1 in the NCAA West Regional Semifinal (Minneapolis, MN). Billy registered five goals and nine assists for 14 points, along with 30 penalty minutes in 30 games

Ken Roche (Boston University) - Appeared in 4 games during the '04-'05 Hockey East Playoffs, scoring one assist vs. Providence (won series, 2-1). Boston U was the #3 seed in the East Region of the NCAA Tournament. North Dakota in the NCAA East Regional Semifinal (Worcester, MA), defeated Boston University 4-0. Ken registered five goals and five assists for ten points, along with 35 penalty minutes in 34 games.

Joey Crabb (Colorado College) - Appeared in four games during the '04-'05 WCHA Playoffs, scoring two points (one goal, one assist)... Named 3rd star of the game on Mar. 12 vs. St. Cloud State (W 4-2)... Colorado College is the #1 seed in the Midwest Region of the NCAA Tournament. Appeared in two games during the NCAA Tournament, scoring three points (one goal, two assists). Colorado will face Denver in the NCAA Frozen Four Semifinal (Columbus, OH). Ranked third on his team with 14 goals. Ranked third on his team with 26 points.
