Team Notes

  • SEVENTH HEAVEN - Seven different Rangers tallied a goal in tonight's game, marking the first time the Rangers had seven different players record a goal in the same game since Jan. 19, 2010 vs. Tampa Bay (eight different players in an 8-2 win).
  • GOALS GALORE - New York recorded seven goals in one regular season game for the first time since Mar. 22, 2015 vs. Anaheim.
  • HOME COOKING - The Rangers won their first two home games of one season for the first time since 2009-10 (four consecutive home wins to begin the season). The Rangers have earned at least one point in 63 of their last 82 regular season home games, dating back to Oct. 16, 2014 (54-19-9 record over the span). In addition, the Blueshirts have posted a 29-10-4 record in 43 regular season games at MSG since the start of the 2015-16 season and have averaged 3.30 goals per game at home over the span.
  • PERFECT 10 - Ten different Rangers have recorded at least one goal thus far this season (Kreider, Grabner, Zibanejad, Miller, Pirri, Zuccarello, Nash, Staal, Hayes, and Vesey).
  • TEAM EFFORT - Nine of the 12 forwards in the Rangers lineup recorded at least one point in tonight's game. In addition, 12 different Blueshirts, including goaltender Antti Raanta, notched at least one point in the contest.
  • THREE'S COMPANY - In each of the last three seasons (including 2016-17), a Ranger has recorded a goal in each of the first three games of the season (Rick Nash - first four games of 2014-15; Oscar Lindberg - first three games of 2015-16; Chris Kreider - first three games of 2016-17).
  • HOT AT THE DOT - New York won 39 of 68 faceoffs (57.3%) in tonight's game and has won 105 of 189 faceoffs (55.6%) through three games this season. 
  • FIRST IN SCORE - The Rangers tallied the first goal in tonight's game and have posted a 76-11-8 record in games which they have scored the first goal of the game since the start of the 2014-15 season.
  • SHARK BITE - The Blueshirts have won six of their last eight games against San Jose at MSG, dating back to Dec. 16, 2002 (6-2-0-0 record over the span).
  • FINISHING THE JOB - The Rangers have posted a 180-3-11 record in their last 194 regular season games when leading entering the third period, dating back to Feb. 6, 2010 vs. New Jersey. New York has also posted an 85-2-5 record in its last 92 regular season games when leading entering the third period, dating back to Nov. 30, 2013 vs. Vancouver. The Blueshirts have posted a 66-2-3 record in 71 regular season contests in which they have held a lead entering the third period since the start of the 2014-15 season.
  • SMOOTH SAILING ON THE PACIFIC - Since the start of last season, the Rangers have earned at least one point in each of their eight home games against Pacific Division opponents (7-0-1 record over the span).
  • POWER SURGE - New York was 1-for-3 (5:51) and registered six shots on goal on the power play in the contest. The Rangers have registered a power play goal in two of the first three games this season. The Rangers have earned at least one point in 11 of the last 14 games in which they have registered a power play goal (10-3-1 record over the span).

Three Stars on Broadway

  • Chris Kreider registered two points (one goal, one assist) and recorded four shots on goal. Kreider has tallied at least one goal and one assist in each of the Rangers' first three games in 2016-17. He is the first Ranger who has registered six points in the first three games of a season since Brian Leetch in 1992-93, and he is the first Rangers forward who has tallied at least six points in the first three contests of a season since Bernie Nicholls and Darren Turcotte in 1990-91. In addition, Kreider is the first Ranger who has posted a multi-point game in each of the first three games of a season since Nicholls in 1990-91. Kreider extended his goal/assist/point streak to three games (three goals, three assists over the span). His three-game goal streak is a new career-high, while his three-game assist streak is tied for his career-high.
  •  Mats Zuccarello tied single-game career-highs with three points (one goal, two assists) and a plus-four rating in tonight's game. Zuccarello has posted 12 three-point games in his career, including seven three-point games since the start of last season. He has notched a point in two of the Rangers' first three games this season, recording four points (two goals, two assists) in those contests.
  • Ryan McDonagh tied a single-game career-high with two assists, registered three shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating while skating in a game-high 26:10 of ice time. The Rangers captain has posted 17 career multi-assist games in the NHL. McDonagh has recorded 19 points (four goals, 15 assists) in his last 36 games, dating back to Jan. 9, 2016.

Blueshirt Breakdown

  • Jimmy Vesey recorded his first career NHL goal, which was the game-winning goal, and posted a plus-two rating. Vesey led the NCAA with 56 goals over his final two seasons of collegiate hockey (2014-15 and 2015-16).
  • Derek Stepan notched two assists, led all skaters with three blocked shots, and posted a plus-three rating. Stepan registered his 306th and 307th points as a Ranger, passing Kelly Kisio for sole possession of 38th place on the franchise's all-time points list. Stepan also recorded his 195th and 196th assists as a Ranger, passing Kisio and Jaromir Jagr for 32nd place on the Rangers' all-time assists list.
  • Michael Grabner tallied a goal and posted a plus-one rating while skating in his 400th career NHL game.
  • Marc Staal tallied the first goal of the game and posted a plus-one rating. Staal has registered a point in each of his last three games against San Jose (two goals, two assists over the span).
  • Rick Nash registered a goal in tonight's game. He has tallied 20 goals in 40 career games against San Jose, and he has recorded 394 goals in his NHL career.
  •  Kevin Hayes tallied a goal, won seven of 12 faceoffs (58.3%), and recorded four shots on goal. He has notched a point in two of the Rangers' first three games this season.
  •  Jesper Fast notched an assist, recorded three hits, and posted a plus-one rating in tonight's game.
  •  J.T. Miller recorded an assist, tied for the game-high with four hits, and registered three shots on goal.
  • Antti Raanta made 27 saves and tallied an assist while earning a win in his first start of the 2016-17 season. Raanta's assist was the second of his NHL career, and his first as a member of the Rangers (he notched an assist on Mar. 28, 2014 as a member of the Chicago Blackhawks). Raanta has posted a 20-4-4 record in 32 career NHL appearances at home.
  • Josh Jooris won five of six faceoffs (83.3%), recorded three hits, and registered two blocked shots while making his Rangers debut in tonight's contest.
