Team Notes

  • ROAD WARRIORS - The Rangers lead Eastern Conference teams in road wins since the start of the 2013-14 season (73; 73-43-9 record in 125 regular season games over the span).
  • CAPS LOCK - The Rangers have earned at least one point in 17 of their last 24 games against Washington, dating back to Dec. 12, 2010 (15-7-2). New York has won nine of its last 12 road games against Washington (9-3-0), including six of its last eight road contests against the Capitals (6-2-0). The Rangers have tallied at least three goals in nine of their last 11 games against Washington.
  • TEAM EFFORT - With Adam Clendening recording a point on Brandon Pirri's goal, 19 different Rangers (including goaltender Antti Raanta) have tallied at least one point through the first five games of the 2016-17 season. Nine different Rangers registered at least one point in tonight's contest.
  • THREE'S COMPANY - New York has registered at least three goals (including team goals awarded for a shootout win) in 54 of 87 regular season games since the start of last season. The Rangers have posted a 41-9-4 record in games which they have registered three or more goals over the span.
  • TWO GOOD - The Blueshirts have won 28 of the last 29 games in which they allowed two goals or fewer, dating back to Dec. 15, 2015 vs. Edmonton (28-1-0).
  • SPECIAL TEAMS - New York outscored Washington, 1-0, on special teams in tonight's game. Since the start of the 2014-15 season, the Rangers have posted a 34-2-3 record in games which they have outscored their opponent on special teams.
  •  POWER SURGE - The Rangers were 1-for-3 (4:45) on the power play in the contest. New York has registered a power play goal in three of the first five games this season. The Blueshirts have tallied at least one power play goal in 40 games since the start of last season and have posted a 27-9-4 record in games which they have notched at least one power play goal over the span.
  • KILL ZONE - New York was 2-for-2 (4:00) on the penalty kill in the contest. The Blueshirts have posted a 19-2-2 record in the last 23 games in which they did not allow a power play goal, dating back to Dec. 22, 2015 vs. Anaheim.
  • FINISHING THE JOB - The Rangers have posted a 181-3-11 record in their last 195 regular season games when leading entering the third period, dating back to Feb. 6, 2010 vs. New Jersey. New York has also posted an 86-2-5 record in its last 93 regular season games when leading entering the third period, dating back to Nov. 30, 2013 vs. Vancouver. The Blueshirts have posted a 67-2-3 record in 72 regular season contests in which they have held a lead entering the third period since the start of the 2014-15 season.

Three Stars on Broadway

  • Jimmy Vesey recorded two goals, including the game-winning goal, and registered three shots on goal. Vesey is the third NHL rookie to post a multi-goal game thus far in 2016-17 (along with Auston Matthews and Patrik Laine). He is the third Rangers rookie who has posted a multi-goal game since the start of the 2013-14 season (Chris Kreider - twice; Oscar Lindberg). Vesey is also the first Rangers rookie who has posted a multi-goal game on the road since the 2011-12 season (Carl Hagelin - Dec. 10, 2011 at Buffalo). Vesey has registered the game-winning goal in each of the two games in which he has recorded a goal thus far in 2016-17.
  • Ryan McDonagh tallied an assist and posted a plus-one rating while skating in a game-high 25:30 of ice time. The Rangers have posted a 22-1-2 record in the last 25 games in which McDonagh has logged at least 25:00 of ice time, dating back to Oct. 16, 2014. McDonagh extended his assist/point streak to three games (four assists over the span), and he has notched 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) in his last 38 games, dating back to Jan. 9, 2016. McDonagh has led the Rangers in ice time in each of the first five games of the 2016-17 season. In addition, the Rangers captain extended his assist/point streak against Washington to five games (seven assists over the span), and he has registered 15 assists in 17 games against the Capitals since the start of the 2012-13 season.
  •  Rick Nash tallied two points (one goal, one assist) and led the Rangers with four shots on goal. He has recorded nine points (six goals, three assists) in his last nine contests against the Capitals and has tallied 24 points (13 goals, 11 assists) in 23 career contests against Washington. One year ago today (Oct. 22, 2015), Nash registered an empty-net goal to tally his 700th career NHL point. Nash has recorded three points (two goals, one assist) in the last three games, and he has registered 11 shots on goal over the last two contests.

Blueshirt Breakdown

  • Henrik Lundqvist made 26 saves and stopped all 18 shots he faced over the final two periods to earn his second win of the season. Lundqvist has posted a win in each of his last six appearances on the road against Washington, dating back to Oct. 8, 2009.
  • Brandon Pirri registered a goal, recorded two shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating. He has tallied three points (two goals, one assist) in five games thus far this season.
  • J.T. Miller tallied an assist and recorded two blocked shots. He has notched a point in three of the first five games of the season (one goal, two assists). Miller led the Rangers with 28 road points in 2015-16.
  • Derek Stepan recorded an assist in 18:25 of ice time in tonight's game. The Rangers alternate captain has tallied three assists/points in the last three games. Stepan registered his 308th career point as a Ranger in tonight's game, tying Mike Rogers for 37th place on the franchise's all-time points list. Stepan has also recorded 197 career NHL assists.
  • Mats Zuccarello notched an assist and posted a plus-one rating in 17:24 of ice time. He has tallied five points (two goals, three assists) thus far this season. Since the start of last season, 56 of his 66 points have either been a goal or the primary assist on a goal.
  • Mika Zibanejad tallied an assist, registered three shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating in 16:05 of ice time. He has recorded a point in four of the first five games of the season, tallying six points (two goals, four assists).
  • Adam Clendening recorded an assist in tonight's contest. Clendening's assist on Brandon Pirri's goal was his first assist/point as a Ranger.
