Rangers To Lace'Em Up at Worlds

The 2002 World Champoionships are underway and the Blueshirts have four players participating in the annual tournament. Andreas Johansson (Sweden), Richard Lintner (right - Slovakia), Roman Lyashenko (Russia) and Martin Richter (Czech Republic) will be in action in Sweden.

Johansson has represented Sweden in several international tournaments, including the 1992 and 1993 World Junior Championships, the 1995 and 2001 World Championships, the 1996 World Cup of Hockey and the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Prior to making his NHL debut in 1995, Johansson played four seasons with Farjestad BK Karlstad of the Swedish Elite League, collecting 19 goals and 24 assists for 43 points in 124 games.

Lintner, who was acquired from Nashville on March 19, has represented Slovakia at the 1996 and 1997 World Junior Championship. The defenseman collected a pair of assists in seven matches with Slovakia at the 2001 World Championship in Germany and also skated with his native country at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City.

Lyashenko, who joined the Rangers on March 12 from the Dallas Stars, served as a member of the 1998 and 1999 Russian squad at the World Junior Championships, capturing a silver medal in 1998 and a gold medal in 1999.

Richter was a member of the Czech Republic National Junior Team that competed in the 1998 World Junior Championship in Finland. The defenseman also represented the Czech Republic at the 2001 World Championship in Germany.
