The 2000-2001 New York Rangers, on behalf of NYR S.K.A.T.E, will host the seventh annual "Skate with the Greats," on Wednesday, January 10, 2001. "Skate with the Greats" is a charity event to benefit The Ronald McDonald House of New York. The event, co-hosted by Rangers BRIAN LEETCH and Hall of Famer ROD GILBERT, will commence at 5:45 PM at Rockefeller Center. MIKE YORK, BRAD BROWN, JAN HLAVAC, PETR NEDVED, RADEK DVORAK, MICHAL GROSEK, MIKE RICHTER, KIRK MCLEAN and Rangers alumnus GLENN ANDERSON are also expected to attend. The evening will include a VIP reception, a buffet dinner, skating with several attending Rangers players and a live auction of NHL/Rangers memorabilia.
Founded by the insurance industry and friends, "Skate with the Greats," has become one of the House's largest fundraising efforts, raising over $2.5 million dollars since it's inception six years ago. The goal for this year's event is to raise a record $1 million, which will provide 7,300 care days to about 25% of families staying at the House annually. The Ronald McDonald House of New York is a sanctuary to families from all over the globe who have traveled to the city for pediatric cancer care available only in New York's hospitals.
