New York Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that the club has agreed to terms on a professional contract with its third round draft pick from the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, defenseman Patrick Aufiero
. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Aufiero, 22, appeared in 25 games with the Boston University Terriers of Hockey East (HE) last season, registering two goals and 10 assists for 12 points, along with 16 penalty minutes. He ranked fifth among defensemen on the team in goals (two), assists (10) and points (12).
The 6-2, 190-pound defenseman has appeared in 120 career contests with Boston University, collecting 13 goals and 42 assists for 55 points, along with 97 penalty minutes. Following the 1999-2000 season, Aufiero was named to the All-New England Team and the Hockey East Second All-Star Team after posting a career-high 23 points (three goals and 20 assists) in 38 contests. He also represented the United States at the 1999 World Junior Championships in Sweden.
The Winchester, Massachusetts native was the Rangers third round selection, 90th overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft.
