Rangers President and General Manager Glen Sather announced today that goaltender Johan Holmqvist has been recalled from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL).
The 23-year old netminder has appeared in 44 games with the Wolf Pack this season, registering a 24-10-6-0 mark, along with a 3.03 goals against average and a .901 save percentage. Holmqvist's 24 wins rank third in the AHL.
The native of Tolfta, Sweden was New York's seventh round choice, 175th overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
Holmqvist is expected to back-up Dan Blackburn in Monday's match vs. the New York Islanders at Nassau Coliseum, as Mike Richter recovers from a head injury suffered in Friday's 5-2 loss to Atlanta.
