New York Rangers General Manager Jeff Gorton announced today that the team has recalled goaltender Magnus Hellberg from the Hartford Wolf Pack of the American Hockey League (AHL) on an emergency basis.
Hellberg, 25, has appeared in 31 games with the Wolf Pack this season, posting an 11-11-5 record, along with a 2.91 GAA and a .902 SV%. He has allowed two goals or fewer in six of his last nine AHL starts, dating back to Dec. 26. Hellberg stopped 26 of 27 shots he faced and earned a win in his last start with the Wolf Pack on Feb. 26 vs. Binghamton.
The 6-6, 209-pounder has appeared in three career NHL games with Nashville and the Rangers. Hellberg made his debut with the Blueshirts on Dec. 20, 2015 vs. Washington. He has appeared in one game with the Rangers in 2016-17, stopping all four shots he faced in the third period on Jan. 17 vs. Dallas.
