Charlotte 0, Columbia 2
The Charlotte Checkers were shut out for the third time this season, falling to the Columbia Inferno 2-0 Friday night at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia , South Carolina . Chanse Fitzpatrick and Matt Ulwelling both scored in the second period for the Inferno, and Columbia goalie Mike Minard made 20 saves to earn the shutout. The Checkers record dropped to 37-23-6 for 80 points. Charlotte will continue its five-game road trip Saturday night at Charleston , South Carolina when the Checkers will meet the Stingrays at 7:00 p.m. Following the five-game road trip, Charlotte will return home for two, final, regular-season games at Cricket Arena. On Friday, April 8, the Checkers will host the Greenville Grrrowl, with South Carolina coming to the Queen City on Saturday, April 9.

WHL Quarterfinals Previews >>

Kamloops 4, Kootenay (Dawes) 3
Nigel Dawes was held scoreless for the first time in 21 games as the WHL regular season cahmpion Kootenay Ice suffered a 4-3 OT loss to the visiting Kamloops Blazers in Game One of their WHL Quarterfinals series. Dawes ended the regular season riding a 20-game point streak, collecting 33 points (24 goals, nine assists) from February 5 to March 19. The two teams will square-off again on Saturday.

Everett (Baranka) 0, Portland (Dubinsky) 3
Brandon Dubinsky's mastery of the Everett Silvertips during the regular season has now extended into the playoffs. Dubinsky, who ranked second on the Portland with nine points (three goals, six assists) in 10 games during the season series with the 'Tips, netted two goals, added an assist and earned first star of the game honors in the Winter Hawk's 3-0 win in the Game One of their WHL Quarterfinals series. Everett's Ivan Baranka registered two penalty minutes in the loss. The two teams meet again on Sunday in Game Two.

London 2, Guelph (Callahan) 1
The Guelph Storm find themselves in a bit of a hole. After dropping the first game of their first round OHL Western Conference series to the London Knights, 3-2, on Friday the Storm returned home and suffered a nail-biting 2-1 defeat on Saturday to fall to 0-2. Guelph captain Ryan Callahan netted his club's lone goal, on the power play. The two teams meet again in Game Three on Monday.

Lewiston (Paiement) 4, Shawinigan 1
The #10 Lewiston MAINEiacs opened their QMJHL first round series with a sound 4-1 win over the #7 Shawinigan Cataractes on Friday. Lewiston defenseman chipped in offensively, collecting a power play goal and adding an assist enroute to being named second star of the game. The two teams are back in action on Saturday for Game Two.

Drummondville 1, Moncton (Graham) 3
The #6 Moncton Wildcats skated past the #11 Drummondville Voltiguers, 3-1, in Game One of their first round QMJHL playoff series on Friday. Moncton forward Bruce Graham was held scoreless in the opener. Game Two is slated for Saturday in Moncton.
