AMERICAN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Lowell 3, Hartford 2
AHL Atlantic Division Semifinals
Lowell leads series, 3-2
Cam Ward made 37 saves to backstop Lowell to a 3-2 road win over Hartford on Thursday night in Game 5 of their Atlantic Division Semifinals series. The Lock Monsters will take a 3-2 series lead back home for Game 6 on Saturday night. Garth Murray and Jeff Hamilton scored for Hartford, while Jason LaBarbera turned aside 29 shots in the loss. Lowell can close out the series on Saturday with a win. Game 7 would return to the Civic Center on Sunday.

ECHL American Conference Semifinals
Charlotte wins series, 3-1
In a furious battle to advance to the third round for the first time in nine years, the Checkers defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators 3-0 before a crowd of 2,751 at Cricket Arena. Checkers goalie Alex Westlund was unconscious, notching 50 saves in the shutout. Charlotte now advances to the American Conference Finals where they will face the Florida Everblades in a best-of-seven series. The first two games of the series will be played on Monday and Wednesday in Estero, Florida, twenty miles south of Fort Myers. The Checkers regain home-ice advantage for Games 3 and 4 on Friday, May 6 at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, May 8 at 5:05 p.m.
