Three Stars of the Week

Lias Andersson registered six points (five goals, one assist) and posted a plus-five rating in four games during the Preliminary Round of the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. The Rangers' first round pick (seventh overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft led all skaters in the tournament in goals, tied for second among all skaters in points, and tied for sixth among all skaters in plus/minus rating during the Preliminary Round. Andersson registered three points (two goals, one assist) and was named Sweden's Best Player of the Game on Dec. 30 against Switzerland. Sweden will play Slovakia in the Quarterfinals on Jan. 2.
 
Filip Chytil
registered four points (two goals, two assists) and posted a plus-three rating in four games during the Preliminary Round of the 2018 IIHF World Junior Championship. The Rangers' first round pick (21st overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft posted two multi-point games in the Preliminary Round (Dec. 26 against Russia and Dec. 30 against Belarus). The Czech Republic will play Finland in the Quarterfinals on Jan. 2.
 
Ty Ronning
registered a hat trick and led all skaters with eight shots on goal on Dec. 30 vs. Prince George. The Rangers' seventh round pick (201st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft recorded his 32nd, 33rd, and 34th goals of the 2017-18 season in the contest and established a WHL career-high for goals in one season. In addition, Ronning tallied his 100th career WHL goal in the game. He leads the WHL in shots on goal (201) and ranks third in the league in goals (34) this season. In addition, Ronning leads Vancouver in goals, points (49), shots on goal, and plus/minus rating (plus-13) in 2017-18.

Emerging from the Pack

Neal Pionk registered a point in each of Hartford's two games during the week (one goal, one assist), and he recorded his first career AHL goal on Dec. 30 vs. Springfield. He has tallied nine points (one goal, eight assists) with the Wolf Pack this season, and he ranks third among team defensemen in assists in 2017-18.
 
John Gilmour registered two assists on Dec. 30 vs. Springfield. Gilmour has notched 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in the last eight games. In addition, he has tallied 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in the last 11 games and has registered 17 points (four goals, 13 assists) in his last 23 games. Gilmour leads Wolf Pack defensemen in goals (five), assists (14), and points (19) this season, and he is also tied for 12th among AHL defensemen in points in 2017-18.
 
Gabriel Fontaine tallied an assist on Dec. 30 vs. Springfield. The Rangers' sixth round pick (171st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has registered five points (two goals, three assists) in the last five games, and he has also recorded seven points (four goals, three assists) in the last seven games.
 
Steven Fogarty tallied an assist on Dec. 30 vs. Springfield. The Rangers' third round pick (72nd overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has registered seven points (one goal, six assists) in his last eight games, as well as nine points (two goals, seven assists) in his last 11 games.

Quick Hits

Morgan Barron registered two points (one goal, one assist) and posted a plus-two rating on Dec. 30 against Canisius. The Rangers' sixth round pick (174th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has tallied 11 points (four goals, seven assists) in 13 games with Cornell thus far this season, and he has recorded a point in nine of the 13 contests. Barron is tied for second on Cornell in goals and assists, and he is also tied for third on the team in points in 2017-18.
 
Tim Gettinger registered a point in all three of Sault Ste. Marie's games during the week (two goals, one assist over the span). The Rangers' fifth round pick (141st overall) in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft has recorded 35 points (19 goals, 16 assists) and a plus-14 rating in 35 games with the Greyhounds this season. Gettinger ranks 11th in the OHL in shots on goal this season (139). He also leads Sault Ste. Marie in shots on goal, is tied for third in goals, and ranks fourth in points this season.
 
Brandon Halverson made 42 saves and earned a win on Dec. 29 vs. Brampton. The Rangers' second round pick (59th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has made at least 30 saves in 12 of his 18 ECHL appearances with Greenville this season, and he has made at least 40 saves in three of his six wins in 2017-18.
 
Adam Huska stopped 27 of 29 shots he faced on Dec. 30 at Boston College. The Rangers' seventh round pick (184th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has allowed two goals or fewer in eight of his last 10 appearances, including one goal in six of those contests. Over his last 10 appearances, Huska has posted a 5-4-1 record, along with a 1.92 GAA and a .930 SV%.
 
Tyler Nanne registered the game-winning goal, recorded four shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating on Dec. 30 against Army. The Rangers' fifth round pick (142nd overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has tallied seven points (three goals, four assists) in 22 games with the University of Minnesota this season, and he is tied for first among team defensemen in goals in 2017-18.
 
Patrik Virta tallied two assists and recorded six shots on goal on Dec. 26 against Lukko. The Rangers' seventh round pick (207th overall) in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft has tallied a point in five of the last seven games (three goals, four assists over the span), and he has also registered nine points (three goals, six assists) and a plus-eight rating in the last 10 games. Virta has recorded 24 points (seven goals, 17 assists) in 35 games with TPS in Liiga this season. He ranks third on TPS in assists and ranks fifth on the team in points this season.
