Three Stars of the Week

Brad Morrison, C, Prince George Cougars (WHL) – Morrison registered his first career WHL hat trick and recorded the game-winning goal on Jan. 16 at Vancouver. The Rangers’ fourth round pick (113th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has notched 23 points (11 goals, 12 assists) in the last 22 games, including 15 points (eight goals, seven assists) in the last 15 games. Morrison ranks third on Prince George in goals (17) and points (37), and is tied for fourth in assists (20) this season.

Ryan Gropp, LW, Seattle Thunderbirds (WHL) – Gropp registered five points (three goals, two assists) in four games this past week. He tallied three points (two goals, one assist), including the game-winning goal, on Jan. 15 vs. Regina. The Rangers’ second round pick (41st overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has recorded a point in 18 of the last 29 games, tallying 31 points (16 goals, 15 assists) over the span. Gropp leads Seattle in goals (21), ranks fourth in points (40), and is tied for fourth in assists (19) this season.

Daniel Bernhardt, RW, London Knights (OHL) – Bernhardt registered three assists and posted a plus-two rating during his first three games with London. The Rangers’ fourth round pick (119th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft made his OHL debut on Jan. 13 at Guelph. In his second career OHL game on Jan. 15 vs. Saginaw, Bernhardt recorded three assists in a span of 3:31 and posted a plus-three rating.

Emerging from the Pack

Magnus Hellberg posted a 2-0-0 record, along with a 0.50 GAA, a .983 SV% (58 saves on 59 shots), and 1 SO in two appearances this past week. He stopped all 32 shots he faced to earn his second shutout of the season on Jan. 15 at Springfield, and he made 26 saves and registered a win on Jan. 16 at Lehigh Valley. Hellberg extended his winning streak to four games, and he has posted a 2.00 GAA, a .937 SV% (118 saves on 126 shots), and 1 SO over the span.

Mat Bodie registered a goal on Jan. 16 at Lehigh Valley. He has notched a point in seven of the last eight games (three goals, six assists, plus-eight rating over the span) and has tallied a point in eight of the last ten games (three goals, seven assists). Bodie is tied for the team lead in assists (14) and plus/minus rating (plus-six) in 2015-16. He is also tied for fourth on Hartford – and leads team defensemen – in points this season (18).

Adam Tambellini registered a goal on Jan. 16 at Lehigh Valley. The Rangers’ third round pick (65th overall) in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft has tallied seven points (four goals, three assists) in the last 11 games and ranks second on the Wolf Pack in goals (ten) in 2015-16.

Pavel Buchnevich, LW, SKA-St. Petersburg (KHL) – Buchnevich notched an assist, recorded three shots on goal, and posted a plus-one rating in 17:54 of ice time on Jan. 11 against Medvescak.

Steven Fogarty, C, University of Notre Dame (NCAA) – Fogarty registered two assists and posted a plus-four rating on Jan. 15 vs. Merrimack. The Rangers’ third round pick (72nd overall) in the 2011 NHL Entry Draft has recorded four points (one goal, three assists) and has posted a plus-seven rating in the last four games.

Brandon Halverson, G, Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds (OHL) – Halverson made 27 saves and earned a win on Jan. 14 at North Bay. The Rangers’ second round pick (59th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft also stopped 24 of 25 shots he faced in relief on Jan. 15 at Sudbury.

Adam Huska, G, Green Bay Gamblers (USHL) – In his first appearance with Green Bay following the IIHF World Junior Championship, Huska stopped 30 of 32 shots he faced and earned a win on Jan. 16 at Madison. The Rangers’ seventh round pick (184th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has posted a 3-1-0 record, along with a 0.76 GAA, a .973 SV% (107 saves on 110 shots), and 2 SO in his last four USHL appearances. In addition, Huska has posted a 12-4-0 record, along with a 1.43 GAA, a .951 SV%, and 4 SO in his last 16 USHL appearances. He leads the USHL in GAA (1.67), SV% (.942), and SO (4), and ranks fifth in wins (12) this season.

Keegan Iverson, RW, Portland Winterhawks (WHL) – Iverson established a single-game WHL career-high with three assists, tied a single-game WHL career-high with three points, and posted a plus-two rating on Jan. 13 vs. Regina. The Rangers’ third round pick (85th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has registered seven points (two goals, five assists) in the last eight games and 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in his last 24 contests.

Robin Kovacs, RW, AIK (Allsvenskan) – Kovacs tallied the game-winning shot in the shootout on Jan. 15 against BIK Karlskoga. The Rangers’ third round pick (62nd overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft leads all players younger than 20 years old in Allsvenskan in goals (14) and points (22) this season. Kovacs is tied for second in AIK in game-winning goals in 2015-16 (five). He has tallied seven shootout goals on ten shootout attempts this season (70.0%), and he leads the league in shootout goals this season.

Ryan Mantha, F/D, Niagara IceDogs (OHL) – Mantha registered a goal on Jan. 15 at Ottawa. The Rangers’ fourth round pick (104th overall) in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft has tallied a point in five of the last eight games, recording seven points (three goals, four assists) over the span. Mantha has also tallied 11 points (three goals, eight assists) in the last 16 games.

Cristoval Nieves, C, University of Michigan (NCAA) – Nieves tallied a goal on Jan. 15 at Ohio State. The Rangers’ second round pick (59th overall) in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft extended his point streak to five games (one goal, six assists over the span). He has tallied a point in seven of his last nine games (three goals, eight assists) and in nine of his last 12 contests (four goals, nine assists).

Aleksi Saarela, C, Ässät (Liiga) – Saarela registered a point in each of Ässät’s two games this past week (one goal, one assist). The Rangers’ third round pick (89th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has notched a point in nine of his last 13 Liiga games, recording 11 points (nine goals, two assists) in those contests. Saarela ranks third on Ässät in goals (11), ranks fourth in plus/minus rating (plus-six), and ranks fifth in points (17) this season. Among players younger than 20 years old in Liiga, Saarela is tied for first in goals and ranks third in points in 2015-16.

Sergey Zborovskiy, D, Regina Pats (WHL) – Zborovskiy notched an assist and posted a plus-three rating in four games this past week. The Rangers’ third round pick (79th overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft has recorded four points (one goal, three assists) in the last nine contests.
