Rangers Prospect Becomes BC's All-Time Points Leader by a Defenseman

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers
Mike Mottau, playing in his third season with the Boston College Eagles, has become the school's all-time leader in assists (113) and points (137) by a defenseman. Mottau achieved the record when he assisted on a first period goal by Blake Bellefeuille on January 14 vs. University of Massachusetts–Lowell. The assist/point moved him past Tom Martin (112 assists) and Ted Mellor (135 points) on the club’s all-time lists. He has also been named Defensive Player of the Week for November 19 and has helped lead his team to a 12-6-1 overall record and a 6-4-1 mark in the Hockey East.

Mottau was drafted by the Rangers in the seventh Round, 182nd overall, in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft.
