During the 2011-12 season, members of the Rangers team participated in three different Garden of Dreams “Show Kids NY” events, which were designed to give children from the Garden of Dreams Foundation a chance to get to know the players while taking part in a fun-filled activity away from the hockey rink.

Radio City Christmas Spectacular

On Tuesday, December 6th, the Rangers and Garden of Dreams invited six children from WHEDco to enjoy the Radio City Christmas Spectacular with Brian Boyle, Henrik Lundqvist, Brandon Prust and Derek Stepan.

The kids had an opportunity to eat dinner at John’s Pizzeria and then travel to Radio City Music Hall with the Rangers players in a stretch limousine. Once the group arrived at Radio City, they were greeted by the Rockettes and given a private back stage tour before enjoying the show.

Madame Tussauds Wax Museum

On Monday, January 9th, the Rangers and Garden of Dreams hosted a special event at the Madame Tussauds Wax Museum for 30 children from the Life Center.

Ruslan Fedotenko and Stu Bickel joined the kids at the museum for an interactive tour which gave the group an opportunity to see a wide range of celebrity wax sculptures. The tour allowed for some incredible photo opportunities!

After taking in all of the wax figures, including President Obama and Wayne Gretzky, the children were able to create and take home their own personal wax hand sculpture. If all of this wasn’t enough, the Rangers players and Garden of Dreams treated the kids to dinner and games at Dave & Buster’s before heading back to the Life Center.

Museum of Natural History

On Friday, February 3rd, the Rangers and Garden of Dreams conducted a special scavenger hunt at the Museum of Natural History for 30 children from SCO Family of Services.

Martin Biron and Dan Girardi joined the kids at the museum, where the group was broken up into six different teams for the scavenger hunt. Biron and Girardi rotated between the groups, assisting the children with the various questions.

After searching the museum far and wide for clues, and tallying up the winning scores, the players and children gathered for photos and autographs. Before saying their goodbyes, Biron and Girardi chatted with the kids about the unique experience and gave out gift bags to everyone.
