Each season, the Rangers invite children from Garden of Dreams partner organizations to the team’s practice facility to meet and skate with various players. This season, which is celebrating the organization’s 85th Anniversary, current Rangers Artem Anisimov
, Derek Boogaard, Ruslan Fedotenko
and Alex Frolov participated.
As the children arrived for this special event, prior to skating, they were treated to Rangers jerseys which were displayed for them in their very own locker room. After getting all geared up, the group was escorted to the Rangers bench, where they were welcomed by former Rangers Captain and current MSG broadcaster Dave Maloney.
Maloney, who was happy to take time out of his busy schedule to be a part of this event, introduced representatives from the Wheelchair Sports Federation and the New York Rangers Sled Hockey Team to conduct demonstrations and teach basic instruction on how to play sled hockey. With numerous children confined to wheelchairs, having the opportunity to learn about and participate in sled hockey meant so much to them.
After learning about sled hockey, the kids were joined on the ice by Anisimov, Boogaard, Fedotenko and Frolov who were introduced by Maloney and happy to take photos and sign autographs while skating.
At the end of this special experience, the kids received gift bags and snacks, but what was talked about most on the bus ride home was how they met some new friends, many of which play hockey for the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
