Rangers, Garden Of Dreams Host Hockey Fights Cancer Awareness Night

by Staff Writer / New York Rangers

On November 5, the Rangers and the Garden of Dreams Foundation will host an awareness night in support of the National Hockey League Players' Association (NHLPA), and the National Hockey League's (NHL®) annual Hockey Fights Cancer™ initiative. This season’s month long initiative is taking place from October 20 – November 17, 2014.

As part of the awareness night, children from the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk County will be invited to attend the game and participate in various once in a lifetime opportunities throughout the night including a ceremonial puck drop, honorary Blue Crew member, Stick Kid for a night and riding on a Zamboni.  They will also meet Rangers Alumni and experience the thrill of being featured live on GardenVision during the game.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Suffolk will also receive a $5,000 donation from the Rangers and Hockey Fights Cancer to continue furthering its mission of granting the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

In addition, there will be special merchandise for purchase at the Madison Square Garden Team Stores where a portion of the proceeds benefit Hockey Fights Cancer.

The stores will feature Hockey Fights Cancer t-shirts, socks, infinity scarves, pocket squares, hats, bow ties, and the same model ties that the coaching staff, alumni and Rangers executives will be wearing.

Also, the players will be sporting Hockey Fights Cancer decals on their helmets, as well as wearing lavender chin straps.

This year, some of the players will use lavender tape on their sticks during warm-ups that night and those sticks will be auctioned off along with other unique items leading up to the game.  Don’t miss out on the opportunity to support your Rangers, Garden of Dreams and the Hockey Fights Cancer initiative.  To place your bid and support the cause, click here.

The Rangers also encourage fans to download an "I Fight For" placard, add a personal message and share a photo using the #NYRHFC.  To download your placard and help raise awareness for Hockey Fights Cancer, click here.

To further support the initiative, Rangers Alumni, Peter and Chris Ferraro both visited Garden of Dreams partner, NY Presbyterian, on October 21. Additional hospital visits by Rangers players and alumni will take place throughout the season.

On top of hospital visits, Dominic Moore showed his support for the cause by making an appearance at the NHL Store.  To see photos the event on October 28, click here.
