Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Sept. 17, 2006

Five Rangers prospects were scheduled to compete in regular-season games in Europe and the QMJHL on Sunday. Here is a summary of their performances:

MarekJan Marek
Position: Forward
Team: Magnitogorsk Metallurg
League: Russian Superleague
Marek's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 6 goals, 1 assist
Sept. 17: Kazan 3, Magnitogorsk 1 (at Magnitogorsk)

Marek and his Magnitogorsk teammates fell to unbeaten Ak Bars Kazan at home. It was a matchup between the Russian Superleague's top two scorers - Marek and former NHLer Alexei Morozov, who enjoyed the upper hand with three points on Sunday. Morozov notched the game's first goal at 3:02 of the second and added the game-winner at 18:52 of that period. He also picked up an assist on Kazan's final goal in the third period, passing Marek for the league scoring lead. Marek, who was held without a point for the first time this season, had four penalty minutes. Denis Platonov scored the lone Magnitogorsk goal, tying the game 1-1 at 5:51 of the middle period.

Hillier Ryan Hillier
Position: Left Wing
Team: Halifax Mooseheads
League: QMJHL
Hillier's Scoring to Date: 2 games, 0 goals, 0 assists
Sept. 17: Cape Breton 8, Halifax 5 (at Cape Breton)

Hillier was held off the scoresheet for the second straight night as the Mooseheads completed a home-and-home with Cape Breton. After going up 5-4 just five minutes into the third period, Cape Breton scored three more times over the final 11:44 to run away with the game.

Position: Right Wing
Team: HK 36 Skalica
League: Slovak Extraliga
Dornic's Scoring to Date: 3 games, 0 goals, 0 assists
Sept. 17: Liptovsky Mikulas 4, Skalica 2 (at Liptovsky Mikulas)

Dornic, the Rangers' first of three sixth-round picks in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft at Nashville, was held without a point as Skalica fell on the road.

Position: Left Wing
Team: HC Hame Zlin
League: Czech Extraliga
Psurny's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 2 goals, 0 assists
Sept. 17: Zlin 2, Znojmo 1 (at Zlin)

Psurny was held scoreless as Zlin held off Znojmo in the third period to remain unbeaten atop the Czech league. Ivan Rachunek, the brother of Rangers defenseman Karel Rachunek, scored Zlin's first goal at 5:19 of the second period.

AnisimovArtem Anisimov
Position: Center
Team: Yaroslavl Lokomotiv
League: Russian Superleague
Anisimov's Scoring to Date: 2 games, 0 goals, 0 assists
Sept. 17: Yaroslavl 5, Khabarovsk 3 (at Khabarovsk)

Anisimov was held without a point as Yaroslavl won its first game of the season on the road.
