Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 7, 2006

Hartford logoThe Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, opened their season on Saturday night, falling at home to Springfield 3-2. After going into a 3-0 hole late in the second period, the Pack came back with goals by Marvin Degon and Hugh Jessiman, outshooting Springfield 10-5 in the final period. In addition, thirteen Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the OHL, QMJHL, WHL, NCAA and Europe on Saturday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 5 games, 1 goal, 2 assists, 0 PIM
Oct. 7: Saginaw 7, Ottawa 3 (at Saginaw)

Zaborsky showed his remarkable offensive potential with a goal and two assists. He wasted no time picking up his first point of the season with a primary assist on Jack Combs' power-play goal at 2:34 of the first period. On another power play at 10:42 of the period, he assisted on a goal by Combs to make it 4-0 for the Spirit. He topped it all of with his first goal of the season, scored shorthanded at 16:56 of the third.

Pyatt's Scoring to Date: 6 games, 3 goals, 5 assists, 2 PIM
Oct. 7: Saginaw 7, Ottawa 3 (at Saginaw)

Coming off a four-point effort, Pyatt was stellar again, picking up a goal and two assists. He had the second assist on Patrick McNeill's power-play goal at 10:22 of the first period, which put Saginaw up 3-0. On a power play at 8:20 of the second, he notched his third goal of the year - giving the Spirit a 5-0 lead. Then, with 4:26 left in the third period, he had the primary assist on Patrick Asselin's power-play goal.

ZeliskaLukas Zeliska

Team: Prince Albert Raiders

Zeliska's Scoring to Date: 6 games, 1 goal, 0 assists, 8 PIM
Oct. 7: Prince Albert 4, Red Deer 3 (SO) (at Red Deer)

Zeliska, the Rangers' 2006 seventh-round draft choice, scored his first goal of the season to give Prince Albert a 3-1 lead at 2:05 of the second period. He then notched the game-winner in the shootout as the final shooter.

Oct. 7: Owen Sound 4, Plymouth 2 (at Owen Sound)

In his first game with the Attack since coming over from the WHL's Kootenay Ice, Flatt needed only 7:34 of the first period to notch a point. He assisted on a goal by Marek Bartanus to make it a 1-1 game. He was also called for one minor penalty and finished his first OHL game with a plus-2 rating.

Staal had the primary assist on the game's first goal, scored by Matt Dias at 17:19 of the opening period. He also took a high-sticking penalty in that period.

Furrer did not score a point or take any penalties as his team rolled to its second straight lopsided victory one night after crushing Langnau 7-0.

Marek was called for one minor penalty in the third period as Magnitogorsk was blanked at home.

Sanguinetti, the top-scoring defenseman in the OHL was shut down by Plymouth, failing to record a point.

Anisimov did not score a point or take any penalties as Yaroslavl skated to a tie on the road.

Cliche Marc-Andre Cliche

Oct. 7: Lewiston 5, Cape Breton 4 (at Lewiston)

Cliche, the Lewiston captain, did not score any points and was called for one minor penalty as his MAINEiacs team beat Cape Breton on a goal by Chad Denny with only 23 seconds left in regulation.

Coming off a natural hat trick the previous night, Russell did not score any points against Kelowna. He was called for two hooking penalties.

Oct. 7: Northern Michigan 3, Wisconsin 3 (at Green Bay)

Olver did not score a point or take any penalties as the Wildcats skated to a tie. NMU had led 3-1 late in the third period.

Roche did not score any points or take any penalties in the Terriers' preseason win. He had five shots on goal.
