Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 22, 2006

Fourteen Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the QMJHL, OHL, WHL, NCAA and Europe on Sunday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Cliche Marc-Andre Cliche
Position: Right Wing
Team: Lewiston MAINEiacs
League: QMJHL
Cliche's Scoring to Date: 12 games, 7 goals, 8 assists, 12 PIM
Oct. 22: Lewiston 6, Saint John 3 (at Saint John)

Cliche had a big afternoon, picking up two goals and an assist in the MAINEiacs' win. He scored his sixth goal of the season to give Lewiston a 2-0 lead at 10:55 of the second period, and then added his seventh at 12:59 of the second period to make it 5-2. He ended his day with the primary assist on David Perron's goal at 5:45 of the third period, which closed out the scoring.

Hillier Ryan Hillier
Position: Left Wing
Team: Halifax Mooseheads
League: QMJHL
Hillier's Scoring to Date: 15 games, 7 goals, 3 assists, 21 PIM
Oct. 22: Halifax 5, Moncton 1 (at Moncton)

Hillier notched his seventh goal of the season with 2:46 remaining in the second period to give the Mooseheads a commanding 4-1 lead.

Dupont's Scoring to Date: 12 games, 7 goals, 7 assists, 44 PIM
Oct. 22: Red Deer 4, Calgary 1 (at Calgary)

Dupont scored the first goal of the game on a power play at 4:16 of the second period. That ended up being the last highlight for the Hitmen, who gave up four goals over the next 36 minutes.

KoverkoTrevor Koverko

Team: Oshawa Generals
League: OHL
Koverko's Scoring to Date: 11 games, 0 goals, 5 assists, 32 PIM
Oct. 22: Ottawa 5, Oshawa 4 (SO) (at Oshawa)

Koverko had a strong game with a pair of assists in the shootout loss. He picked up the second assist on his team's first goal of the game, scored by John Tavares on a power play at 9:32 of the first period. The goal pulled Oshawa into a 1-1 tie before Ottawa came back with two straight goals for a 3-1 lead. The Generals fought back to tie the game at 3-3 midway through the second period before Ottawa went ahead 4-3 with 8:49 left in the second period Koverko then had the primary assist on Dale Mitchell's game-tying goal with two minutes remaining, which forced the overtime. Koverko also had a minor penalty in the second period.

SauerMichael Sauer
Position: Defense
Team: Portland Winter Hawks
League: WHL
Sauer's Scoring to Date: 11 games, 3 goals, 3 assists, 18 PIM
Oct. 22: Portland 6, Chilliwack 4 (at Chilliwack)

Sauer had the second assist on Frazer McLaren's game-winning power-play goal at 11:46 of the third period, which completed McLaren's hat trick. The goal gave the Winter Hawks a 5-3 lead and was one of seven goals scored in a wild final period, which ended with an empty-netter with 1:07 remaining. Sauer was also called for a minor penalty in the second period.

Marek's Scoring to Date: 17 games, 11 goals, 5 assists, 18 PIM
Oct. 22: Magnitogorsk 2, Novosibirsk 0 (at Magnitogorsk)

Marek did not score any points or take any penalties in Magnitogorsk's shutout win at home. Evgeny Varlamov and Alexei Tertyshny both scored on power plays for Metallurg.

FurrerPhilippe Furrer

Oct. 22: Bern 3, Ambri-Piotta 2 (SO) (at Ambri-Piotta)

Furrer did not score a point and was called for a minor penalty in the second period of his team's second straight shootout victory over Ambri-Piotta. He continues to lead Bern in penalty minutes. The victory kept Bern atop the Swiss league standings.

Oct. 22: Pardubice 4, Zlin 3 (at Zlin)

Psurny did not score any points or take any penalties in a game Zlin lost on a late third-period goal by Pardubice's Ondrej Zdenek.

Dornic did not crack the scoresheet as Skalica lost again at home.

Oct. 22: Sudbury 3, Belleville 2 (at Sudbury)

Staal, the Sudbury captain, did not score any points or take any penalties in the third period of the Wolves' win at home. Sudbury won the game on a goal by Matt Dias at 6:50 of the third period.

Reese, a senior who is captain of the Crimson this season, scored the game's first goal at 18:25 of the opening period. He later had an assist on Steve Rolecek's game-winning goal at 4:19 of the third. Reese also took two minor penalties in the exhibition game.
