Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Oct. 18, 2006

Three Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the WHL on Wednesday. Here is a summary of their performances:

RussellRyan Russell
Position: Center
Team: Kootenay Ice
League: WHL
Russell's Scoring to Date: 11 games, 10 goals, 8 assists, 23 PIM
Oct. 18: Kootenay 7, Red Deer 3 (at Red Deer)

Russell, the Ice captain and No. 1 star of the game, had a career night with four goals and one assist. He scored his first goal of the game at 11:47 of the opening period, giving the Ice a 2-1 lead. Then, at 4:29 of the second, he picked up his second goal, shorthanded, to make it 3-1. Just over 10 minutes later, he had the second assist on Steve DaSilva's power play goal that put the Ice up 4-1. Russell completed his hat trick of 17:42 of the second period and notched his fourth goal of the game at 11:26 of the third. Kootenay enjoyed a run of six unanswered goals, with Russell scoring four.

ZeliskaLukas Zeliska
Position: Center
Team: Prince Albert Raiders
League: WHL
Zeliska's Scoring to Date: 10 games, 2 goals, 2 assists, 12 PIM
Oct. 18: Prince Albert 4, Lethbridge 2 (at Prince Albert)

Zeliska, the game's No. 3 star, assisted on the Raiders' first goal of the game, scored by Ryan DePape on a power play at 16:08 of the first period to make it 1-1. He had another assist on DePape's second goal at 4:25 of the third, which closed out the scoring. Both of Zeliska's points were primary assists. He finished the game with a plus-3 rating.

HunterEric Hunter
Position: Left Wing
Team: Prince George Cougars
League: WHL
Hunter's Scoring to Date: 11 games, 4 goals, 4 assists, 46 PIM
Oct. 18: Kelowna 4, Prince George 3 (SO) (at Kelowna)

Hunter scored on a power-play at 9:49 of the third period, cutting Kelowna's lead to 3-2. The Cougars tied the game with 2:54 remaining but fell in the overtime shootout. Hunter was also called for a minor penalty in the game.
