Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Nov. 10, 2006

The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, routed the Johnstown Chiefs 5-1 on Friday night, with Rangers prospects playing a big role in the win. Bruce Graham, the game's No. 1 star, had a huge night with three points. He got the Checkers on the board with a shorthanded goal at 13:15 of the second period, tying the game at 1-1 and starting a run of five unanswered Charlotte goals. He later had the primary assist on Mark Lee's goal at 12:49 of the third period, making it 3-1, and added his second goal of the game just 1:19 later. Fellow Rangers prospect Chris Holt, the No. 3 star, stopped 22 shots for the Checkers to earn the victory. The Checkers are now 6-2-0. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.

In addition, 13 Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the QMJHL, OHL, WHL and NCAA on Friday. Here is a summary of their performances:

It was a career night for Roche, as the Boston University forward registered a hat trick and had a hand in every goal. Roche had the primary assist on the game's first goal, scored by Chris Higgins just nine seconds into the middle period. He then picked up his third goal of the season, unassisted, to pull the Terriers into a 2-2 tie at 3:13 of the third. When BU fell behind again, Roche delivered his second goal of the night to make it 3-3 at 8:40 of the third period. He then completed his hat trick to tie the game on a power play with 1:02 remaining in the third period. Roche, the game's No. 1 star, led all players with seven shots on goal as the No. 8 Terriers settled for a tie with the No. 13 Wildcats.

Cliche's Scoring to Date: 20 games, 11 goals, 15 assists, 20 PIM
Nov. 10: Lewiston 5, Prince Edward Island 4 (at Lewiston)

Team captain Cliche had a good night for the MAINEiacs with two points . He scored his 11th goal of the season to give Lewiston a 2-0 lead with only one second left in the first period. He then picked up the second assist on Eric Castonguay's power play goal at 2:18 of the second, which made it 3-0.

Olver's Scoring to Date: 11 games, 2 goals, 5 assists, 10 PIM
Nov. 10: Northern Michigan 2, Alaska-Fairbanks 2 (at Northern Michigan)

Olver, the game's No. 3 star, scored his second goal of the season at 12:54 of the first period. The unassisted goal came just eight seconds after Alaska-Fairbanks had taken a 1-0 lead. He finished the game with two shots on goal and a plus-1 rating.

Nov. 10: Cornell 3, Harvard 2 (at Cornell)

Coming off their first win of the season, Reese and his Harvard teammates fell to the Big Red in Ithaca, N.Y. Reese, the Harvard captain, scored his second goal of the season on a power play at 4:14 of the opening period to tie the game at 1-1. Harvard led 2-1 with 9:32 left in the third period before Cornell came back with two goals, including the game-winner at 18:27.

Nov. 10: Maine 4, UMass Lowell 1 (at Maine)

Ryan had the primary assist on Keenan Hopson's goal at 12:38 of the first, which gave Maine a 2-0 lead and stood up as the game-winner. With the victory, the No. 1-ranked Black Bears improved to 8-0-1.

Hunter's Scoring to Date: 19 games, 4 goals, 9 assists, 73 PIM
Nov. 10: Prince George 3, Kelowna 2 (at Prince George)

Hunter, the Prince George captain, had the primary assist on Vladimir Mihalik's power-play goal at 5:34 of the second period, which pulled the Cougars into a 2-2 tie. Devin Setoguchi later broke the tie with the game-winner. Hunter also took a minor penalty in the opening period.

Koverko's Scoring to Date: 17 games, 0 goals, 7 assists, 50 PIM
Nov. 10: Oshawa 3, London 2 (OT) (at London)

Koverko did not score any points or take any penalties as the Generals upset London on the Knights' home ice. He was also plus-1 for the game.

Hillier Ryan Hillier

Team: Halifax Mooseheads

Hillier's Scoring to Date: 22 games, 9 goals, 5 assists, 23 PIM
Nov. 10: Halifax 4, Chicoutimi 2 (at Halifax)

Hillier did not score any points or take any penalties as the Mooseheads broke a 2-2 tie at 11:46 of the third period and later iced the game on an empty net goal.

It was a tough evening for Sanguinetti and his Attack teammates, who were shut out by Plymouth goalie Jeremy Smith with 42 saves.

Staal, the Rangers' No. 1 pick in 2005, drew a minor and misconduct for checking from behind in the second period of his team's win in Guelph.

Foote returned to the Huskies lineup after missing one game due to injury. He finished the night with three shots on goal in the rare 0-0 tie.

Russell was not in the lineup as the Ice won the game on a power-play goal by Curtis Billsten with 4:30 remaining in the game. Russell is out with a broken finger, suffered during Kootenay's Oct. 20 game at Swift Current and is expected to miss one month. It was the eighth game he has missed due to the injury.
