May 4: Plymouth 4, Sudbury 1 (at Plymouth) (Plymouth leads series 1-0)

Staal, the Sudbury captain, did not score any points and took one minor penalty as the Wolves lost the OHL Championship series opener on the road. He finished the game with a plus-1 rating

May 4: Vancouver 1, Medicine Hat 0 (at Medicine Hat) (Vancouver leads series 1-0)

Sauer did not score any points or take any penalties as the Tigers lost the WHL Championship series opener at home.
