Rangers Daily Prospect Update: March 8, 2007

The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, fell to the South Carolina Stingrays 6-2 at home on Thursday night. Rangers prospect Hannu Pikkarainen helped get the Checkers on the board first, as he picked up the second assist on Blake Bellefeuille's power-play goal at 6:27 of the opening period. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt, coming off his first shutout of the season, stopped 23 shots in defeat. Charlotte is now 31-22-3 and in fifth place in the American Conference's South Division. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.

In addition, four Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the OHL, NCAA and Europe on Thursday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Anisimov had the best game of his 2006-07 season, registering three points in Yaroslavl's tie. He had the lone assist on Alexei Mikhnov's first goal at 2:06 of the opening period, tying the game at 1-1. He later picked up the second assist on Mikhnov's second goal at 7:57 of the second period, cutting Nizhnekamsk's lead to 3-2. Anisimov closed his big day with the second assist on Alexei Kudashov's 5-on-3 power-play goal at 14:08 of the second, tying the game at 3-3.

March 8: Vermont 3, Boston University 2 (at Boston University) (Hockey East Quarterfinals, Vermont leads 1-0)

Roche scored at 14:32 of the first period, tying the game at 2-2. Vermont later won on an early second-period goal.

Flatt had the second assist on the game's first goal, scored by Graham McNabb at 7:39 of the opening period. He also took a minor penalty in the second period and finished the night with a team-leading plus-2 rating. The Battalion went on to win in an 11-round shootout.
