Rangers Daily Prospect Update: March 27, 2007

The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, routed the Pensacola Ice Pilots 5-2 at home on Tuesday night. Rangers prospect Bruce Graham notched Charlotte's second goal of the game at 3:09 of the first period, putting the Checkers up 2-0. Fellow prospect Zdenek Bahensky then got the lone assist on the eventual game-winner, which gave Charlotte a 3-0 lead with 6:03 left in the first. Goaltender Alex Westlund, who attended the Rangers' 2006 training camp before signing with Hartford last fall, made 16 saves for the win, as Charlotte outshot Pensacola by a very lopsided 44-18 margin. Sauer had the second assist on Colton Grant's game-winner at 15:03 of the second, making it a 4-1 game. He also took seven minutes in penalties, including five for fighting Red Deer's Brett Sutter late in the third period, and finished the game with a plus-1 rating.

Hunter had the primary assist on Greg Gardner's power-play goal with 34 seconds remaining in the first period, tying the game at 2-2. Trailing 3-2 with less than six minutes to go in the third period, the Cougars rallied for a pair of goals to move within one win of a series sweep.
