Rangers Daily Prospect Update: March 2, 2007

Seventeen Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the QMJHL, OHL, WHL and NCAA on Friday. Here is a summary of their performances:


ReeseDylan Reese
Position: Defense
Team: Harvard Crimson
League: ECAC
Reese's Scoring to Date: 30 games, 9 goals, 8 assists, 18 PIM
March 2: Harvard 5, Yale 2 (at Harvard) (ECAC Playoffs, Round 1)

Reese, the game's No. 1 star, dominated Harvard's playoff opener with a natural hat trick. He picked up Harvard's first goal on a power play at 6:41 of the second period, cutting Yale's lead to 2-1. He followed that up with another power play goal at 14:05 of the second to tie the game at 2-2. Reese then completed his natural hat trick with a third power play goal at 1:16 of the third period. That goal stood up as the game-winner.

Team: Kootenay Ice

Russell's Scoring to Date: 52 games, 27 goals, 41 assists, 43 PIM
March 2: Kootenay 4, Red Deer 0 (at Red Deer)

Russell, the game's No. 1 star, scored his first of two goals on a power play at 5:53 of the second period to put the Ice up 2-0. He later closed out the scoring with another power play goal at 13:20 of the third.

Staal, the game's No. 3 star, had the primary assist on Andrew Self's goal at 12:54 of the first period, tying the game at 1-1.

ZaborskyTomas Zaborsky

Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 52 games, 17 goals, 20 assists, 14 PIM

Zaborsky had the second assist on Jan Mursak's power-play goal at 14:40 of the second period, which gave the Spirit a 3-2 lead.

SauerMichael Sauer

Sauer did not score any points and took one minor penalty in the Tigers' shutout win. He finished the night with a plus-1 rating.
