The red-hot Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, edged the Springfield Falcons 2-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Hartford Civic Center for their ninth win in the past 11 games. After giving up the game's first goal to Springfield at 10:46 of the first period, Hartford came right back for the tie on All-Star rookie Ryan Callahan's 26th goal of the season, assisted by Jarkko Immonen, at 15:19 of the first. Neither team scored in the second period, but Pack defenseman Ivan Baranka got the game-winner on a power play at 6:55 of the third period off assists from Nigel Dawes and Marvin Degon. Goaltender Stephen Valiquette made 21 saves, and the Pack outshot Springfield by a whopping 55-22 margin. Only the goaltending heroics of the Falcons' Karri Ramo (53 saves) kept Springfield in striking distance throughout the game. Callahan was named the game's No. 1 star, while Baranka was the No. 3 star. Callahan's 26 goals rank fifth in the AHL, and second among league rookies. The Wolf Pack are now 25-17-3 on the season and have gone a remarkable 20-6-2 over their past 28 games to move within four points of first-place Manchester in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division.
