The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, crushed the Columbia Inferno 8-0 at home on Tuesday night. Rangers prospects played a huge role in the win. No. 3 star Zdenek Bahensky led the way with a career high four points on a goal and three assists. No. 2 star Bruce Graham had two goals and one assist, and Lee Falardeau had two assists for the Checkers. Bahensky opened the scoring with the eventual game-winner for Charlotte at 14:39 of the first period. He picked up his second point of the night with the second assist on Dan Murphy's goal at 5:17 of the second period, making it 2-0. Hugh Jessiman, recently reassigned by the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, notched his first ECHL goal of the season at 6:41 of the second for a 3-0 lead. The goal was assisted by Graham and Lee Falardeau. Graham then tallied his 20th goal of the season at 3:09 of the third period off a primary assist from Falardeau, giving the Checkers a 4-0 lead. Bahensky's third point came when he registered the second assist on Charlotte's fifth goal, scored by Dan Murphy at 3:59 of the third period. Three minutes later, Graham picked up his second goal of the game at 6:58 of the third period, stretching the lead to 7-0. With 21 goals, Graham is now alone in second place in the ECHL, just two goals behind league-leader Mike Pandolfo. Bahensky closed out his big night with the second assist on Mike Ouellette's goal at 12:34 of the third, the last goal scored in the rout. Alex Westlund, who attended the Rangers' 2006 training camp, got the shutout with 27 saves to earn No. 1 star honors. The Checkers are now 17-13-1 and in fourth place in the American Conference's South Division. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.
