The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, defeated the Portland Pirates 5-4 on Friday night in Portland, Me., as they continued their remarkable run of success over the past several weeks. Trailing 3-1 late in the second period, the Pack came back with four straight goals, including the winner. Nigel Dawes, the game's No. 1 star, opened the night for Portland by scoring his 10th goal of the season just 12 seconds into the game. All-Star defenseman Daniel Girardi picked up the lone assist on the goal. Portland came back with three goals, including one just 1:18 into the second period, before the Wolf Pack mounted their tremendous comeback. Bryce Lampman cut the Pirates' lead to 3-2 on a power play with 4:10 remaining off assists from Dawes and Dwight Helminen, and Lauri Korpikoski tied the game at 3-3 at 1:25 of the third period with his sixth goal of the season. Brandon Dubinsky and No. 3 star Ivan Baranka assisted on Korpikoski's tying goal. David Liffiton then scored his first of the season to give the Pack a 4-3 lead at 9:55 of the third. Dawes, picking up his third point, and Dubinsky assisted on the go-ahead goal. Jarkko Immonen finally came through with the eventual game-winner on a power play at 12:49 of the third. Marvin Degon and Helminen assisted on Immonen's goal, which made it a 5-3 game. Goaltender Al Montoya made 21 saves to pick up the victory for Hartford, which outshot Portland 26-25. Hartford is now 23-17-3 on the season. The Wolf Pack have gone 18-6-2 over their past 26 games and have a firm hold on second place in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, just six points behind Manchester. The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, shut out the South Carolina Stingrays 5-0 at home on Friday night. Rangers prospects Lee Falardeau and Rick Kozak helped get the rout going for the Checkers, assisting on Dan Murphy's goal at 2:37 of the first period. Falardeau then picked up another assist on Murphy's second goal of the night at 13:53 of the first. Hugh Jessiman made it 3-0 on a power play at 5:57 of the second period, and Zdenek Bahensky put the Checkers up 4-0, with Jessiman assisting at 2:19 of the third. Falardeau, the No. 3 star, helped finish off the scoring with his third assist of the night on Murphy's hat-trick goal at 15:08 of the third period. The Checkers are now 21-14-3 and in fourth place in the American Conference's South Division -- just five points behind division-leading Gwinnett. Despite the loss, it was a tremendous four-point night for All-Star defenseman Staal. Staal had the second assist on Devin DiDiomete's goal at 5:42 of the second period, giving Sudbury a 2-1 lead at the time. He followed that up with another assist on a power-play goal by Kevin Baker just two minutes later, making it 3-1. Trailing 6-3, Staal got another second assist on Gerome Giudice's goal with 3:25 remaining. He capped off his evening with yet another second assist on Nick Foligno's power-play goal with 15 seconds left to play.

Olver Darin Olver

Team: Northern Michigan Wildcats

Olver's Scoring to Date: 26 games, 10 goals, 14 assists, 24 PIM
Jan. 19: Northern Michigan 4, Bowling Green 1 (at Northern Michigan)

It was a big night for Olver, the game's No. 1 star with a pair of goals. Olver scored the eventual game-winner at 8:10 of the opening period to give the Wildcats a 2-0 lead. He then notched his second of the evening at 1:26 of the third period to make it 3-0. Olver also took a minor penalty in the first period.

Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 35 games, 9 goals, 16 assists, 10 PIM

Zaborsky scored the game-winning goal for the Spirit at 15:40 of the third period. His ninth goal of the season made it 6-3 at the time and capped off a run of five straight Saginaw goals.

Hunter delivered the game's first goal, scoring shorthanded at 10:49 of the first period. That goal stood up as the game-winner.

Dupont closed out the scoring with his 24th goal of the season with 14 seconds left in the third period. He finished the game with a plus-1 rating.

Russell had the primary assist on Andrew Bailey's goal at 4:14 of the first period, pulling the Ice into a 1-1 tie. That goal set off a run of five straight Kootenay tallies over a span of slightly more than 20 minutes until the Ice held a 5-1 lead with 13:55 left in the middle period.
