The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, defeated the Atlantic Division-leading Manchester Monarchs 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, N.H., extending their winning streak to five games. Rookie Ryan Callahan, who is headed to the AHL All-Star Game later this month, got the Pack on the board first on a power play at 16:20 of the opening period, assisted by Ivan Baranka and Nigel Dawes. Defenseman Daniel Girardi, who will join Callahan at the All-Star Game, made it 2-0 on another power play at 1:21 of the second period. Baranka and Callahan, the game's No. 2 star, assisted on the goal, which stood up as the game-winner. Manchester cut the score to 2-1 with 6:04 remaining in the game, but the Pack roared back to slam the door on the Monarchs with two goals in the last 3:22. Callahan got the insurance goal that made it 3-1 off assists from Dane Byers and Brandon Dubinsky on a power play at 16:38, giving him 24 goals on the season and three points on the afternoon. Dawes closed out the game with an empty-netter at 17:36. David Liffiton and Jarkko Immonen assisted on Dawes' goal, which was his eighth of the season. Stephen Valiquette picked up the win in goal for Hartford, stopping 28 shots to earn No. 1 star honors. Hartford is now 22-16-3 on the season. The red-hot Wolf Pack have won seven of their last eight games, with the only loss coming in overtime. Hartford has also gone 17-5-2 over its past 24 games to move into second place in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division, just four points behind the Monarchs.
