Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Feb. 4, 2007

Six Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the QMJHL and OHL on Sunday. Here is a summary of their performances:

Kveton David Kveton
Position: Right Wing
Team: Gatineau
League: QMJHL
Kveton's Scoring to Date: 14 games, 3 goals, 16 assists, 10 PIM
Feb. 4: Gatineau 9, Victoriaville 3 (at Gatineau)

It was another big day for Kveton, who had a goal and two assists for Gatineau . He began the afternoon with the second assist on Kevin Petit's power-play goal at 17:55 of the first period, giving the Olympiques a 3-2 lead. He then had the primary assist on Martin Frechette's game-winning power-play goal at 7:35 of the second period, making it 4-2. Less than seven minutes later, Kveton tallied his third goal of the season at 14:17 of the second for a 5-2 lead.

Hillier Ryan Hillier
Position: Left Wing
Team: Halifax Mooseheads
League: QMJHL
Hillier's Scoring to Date: 55 games, 26 goals, 20 assists, 79 PIM
Feb. 4: Rimouski 6, Halifax 5 (SO) (at Halifax)

Hillier scored his 26th goal of the season on a power play at 15:33 of the opening period to give Halifax a commanding 4-0 lead. He also took a minor penalty in the overtime period and led Halifax with six shots on goal. Hillier was the Mooseheads' first shooter in the shootout, but did not score against Rimouski goalie Ben MacFarlane, who turned aside both shots he faced. With 26 goals, Hillier now has seven more than he had in his entire draft year a season ago.

Position: Defense
Team: Sudbury Wolves
League: OHL
Staal's Scoring to Date: 40 games, 5 goals, 22 assists, 73 PIM
Feb. 4: Sudbury 5, Windsor 3 (at Sudbury)

Staal, the Wolves' captain, did not score any points and took one minor penalty in a Sudbury win that featured a goal by Staal's younger brother Jared. Staal finished the game with a plus-2 rating.

SanguinettiBobby Sanguinetti
Position: Defense
Team: Owen Sound Attack
League: OHL
Sanguinetti's Scoring to Date: 51 games, 20 goals, 20 assists, 46 PIM
Feb. 4: Ottawa 2, Owen Sound 1 (at Ottawa)

Sanguinetti did not score any points or take any penalties as the Attack lost on the road.

FlattDalyn Flatt
Position: Defense
Team: Brampton Battalion
League: OHL
Flatt's Scoring to Date: 42 games, 3 goals, 4 assists, 168 PIM
Feb. 4: Brampton 3, Toronto 1 (at Brampton)

Flatt did not score any points and took two minor penalties in the Battalion's win at home.

KoverkoTrevor Koverko
Position: Defense
Team: Oshawa Generals

Koverko did not score any points or take any penalties in the Generals' win over Kingston.
