Rangers Daily Prospect Update: Feb. 3, 2007

The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Pensacola Ice Pilots 3-1 on Saturday night in Pensacola, Fla. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt made 26 saves in defeat for the Checkers. The Checkers outshot the Ice Pilots 34-29 but were stymied by Pensacola goalie Michael Mole, who made 14 third-period saves and was named the game's No. 1 star. In addition, 14 Rangers prospects competed in regular-season games in the QMJHL, OHL, WHL, NCAA and Europe on Saturday. Here is a summary of their performances:

PyattTom Pyatt
Position: Center
Team: Saginaw Spirit
League: OHL
Pyatt's Scoring to Date: 42 games, 29 goals, 29 assists, 16 PIM
Feb. 3: Saginaw 9, Erie 0 (at Saginaw)

It was a tremendous night for Pyatt, as he finished the evening with a natural hat trick and five points to earn No. 2 star honors behind winning goaltender Ryan Daniels. In the process, he set a new OHL single-season career high, breaking his old mark of 53 points. He began with the second assist on Ryan O'Marra's goal at 4:39 of the first period, which would prove to be the game-winner. He then made it a 2-0 game with his first goal at 2:36 of the second. Just under three minutes later, Pyatt scored again to give Saginaw a 3-0 lead at 5:34 of the second. He completed his natural hat trick at 9:55 of the period, making it 4-0, and picked up his fifth consecutive point on a power play with 1:20 remaining in the middle period to make it 5-0. Pyatt completed the night with a plus-4 rating.

Hunter's Scoring to Date: 52 games, 17 goals, 21 assists, 108 PIM
Feb. 3: Prince George 6, Kamloops 5 (OT) (at Prince George)

Hunter, the Prince George captain, scored on a power play at 5:42 of the first period to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead. He later had the lone assist on Devin Setoguchi's game-winner just 45 seconds into overtime.

Kveton David Kveton
Position: Right Wing
Team: Gatineau
League: QMJHL
Kveton's Scoring to Date: 13 games, 2 goals, 14 assists, 10 PIM
Feb. 3: Gatineau 7, Rouyn-Noranda 4 (at Gatineau)

Kveton was named the game's No. 2 star after scoring two points in Gatineau's win. He notched his second goal of the season at 11:54 of the second period, giving the Olympiques a 4-2 lead. He followed the goal with the lone assist on Paul Byron's game-winning tally at 18:10 of the second to put Gatineau up 5-2. Kveton also took a minor penalty in the second period and finished the game with a plus-3 rating.

RussellRyan Russell

Russell's Scoring to Date: 40 games, 19 goals, 29 assists, 37 PIM
Feb. 3: Kootenay 4, Calgary 3 (at Kootenay)

It was a two-point night for Russell, who would be among the WHL scoring leaders had he not missed several games to injury earlier in the season. Russell had the primary assist on Michael Busto's goal at 13:08 of the first period, which pulled the Ice into a 1-1 tie. He later scored a shorthanded goal at 11:07 of the third period to make it 3-2.

ZaborskyTomas Zaborsky

Team: Saginaw Spirit

Zaborsky's Scoring to Date: 42 games, 13 goals, 18 assists, 14 PIM

Zaborsky tallied the Spirit's sixth goal of the game at 3:22 of the third period and finished the night with a plus-1 rating.

Dupont scored his 26th goal of the season at 15:15 of the second period, tying the game at 2-2. The goal gave him a career-high 54 points on the season. Dupont also took a minor penalty in the third period.

Sanguinetti had the second assist on the game's first goal, scored by Howie Martin on a power play at 2:33 of the first period.

Hillier Ryan Hillier

Hillier's Scoring to Date: 54 games, 25 goals, 20 assists, 79 PIM
Feb. 3: Halifax 4, Drummondville 0 (at Halifax)

Hillier had the lone assist on the Mooseheads' first goal, which stood up as the game-winner. The goal was scored by Jakub Voracek at 6:09 of the first period, one of Voracek's four points on the evening.

Reese had the primary assist on Alex Meintel's power play goal at 1:38 of the second period, giving the Crimson a 1-0 lead.
