The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Hershey Bears 2-1 on Friday night at the Hartford Civic Center. The Pack held a 1-0 lead after the first period on a goal by Craig Weller, the game's No. 3 star, at 17:36. The goal, assisted by Dwight Helminen and Lauri Korpikoski, was Weller's seventh of the season. Hershey came back to tie the score on Alexandre Giroux's 31st goal of the season midway through the second period. The Bears then got the winner from Tomas Fleischmann at 5:30 of the third. The Pack continued their trend of outshooting opponents, even in losses. Goaltender Al Montoya stopped 31 of 33 shots, but was overshadowed by Hershey's Frederic Cassivi, the game's No. 1 star who turned aside 37 of 38. The Wolf Pack are now 27-18-3 on the season and have gone a remarkable 22-7-2 over their past 31 games to take control of second place in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, defeated the Florida Everblades 3-2 at home on Friday night. Rangers prospect Lee Falardeau picked up the primary assist on Charlotte's second goal, scored by Mark Lee at 1:24 of the second period for a 2-0 Checkers lead. Hugh Jessiman, the No. 1 star, scored the game-winner on a power play just 48 seconds into the third period, snapping a 2-2 tie. Jessiman, the Rangers' 2003 first-round pick, has eight goals and 15 points in 13 games with the Checkers since being assigned to Charlotte by Hartford. It was a big night for Reese, who finished with three assists to earn No. 2 star honors. He had the primary assist on John Pelle's power-play goal at 9:51 of the first period, giving the Crimson a 1-0 lead. He then picked up another primary assist on Alex Meintel's power-play tally at 4:27 of the second, making it 2-0. His third point came as a second assist on Meintel's second goal of the game, giving Harvard a 4-0 edge. Reese was also a plus-2 for the game.

Playing against a Medicine Hat team captained by his twin brother, Kris, Kootenay captain Ryan picked up a pair of assists. He started with the second assist on the game's first goal, scored by Andrew Bailey on a power play at 6:20 of the first period. He then picked up another second assist on Steve DaSilva's goal just over three minutes later, giving the Ice a 2-0 lead. Russell also took two minor penalties in the game and finished the night with a plus-1 rating. He did not participate in the shootout.
