The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, beat the Providence Bruins 4-1 on Sunday afternoon at the Hartford Civic Center, sweeping a two-game series with Providence and winning their third game in three days. Nigel Dawes scored first for Hartford only 47 seconds into the game, picking up his 11th goal of the season off assists from Brad Isbister and Ivan Baranka. Defenseman Marvin Degon gave the Pack a 2-0 lead at 11:19 of the first period off assists from Dwight Helminen and Dawes, the game's No. 2 star. Rookie Ryan Callahan, the game's No. 1 star, stretched the lead to 3-0 at 17:30 of the first. Lauri Korpikoski and Dale Purinton picked up assists on Callahan's first of two goals. Callahan later closed out the scoring with his team-leading 31st goal of the season from Korpikoski and David Liffiton at 7:28 of the second period. Goaltender Alex Westlund, who attended the Rangers' 2006 training camp, stopped 26 of 27 shots in his AHL debut after being called up from Charlotte to replace Stephen Valiquette on the Pack's roster. Hartford is now 31-20-3 on the season and has gone a remarkable 26-9-2 over the past 37 games to take sole possession of second place in the Eastern Conference's Atlantic Division. Jessiman

The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, defeated the Gwinnett Gladiators on the road on Sunday afternoon. Rangers prospect Bruce Graham got the Checkers on the board just 12 seconds into the game, scoring his 28th goal of the season. Hugh Jessiman, the Rangers' 2003 first-round pick, later gave Charlotte a 2-1 lead when he scored at 12:54 of the first. The goal was Jessiman's 12th in only 20 ECHL games this season. Jessiman, the game's No. 2 star, later assisted on the winning goal, scored by Mike Ouellette while the Checkers were shorthanded at 4:51 of the third period. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt was outstanding in net, stopping 30 shots, including 13 in the third period. It was another big afternoon for Pyatt, the game's No. 1 star, who had two goals and one assist. He scored the first of his two goals with 22 seconds left in the first period to pull the Spirit into a 2-2 tie. He later picked up the second assist on Ryan O'Marra's goal at 8:43 of the third period, giving Saginaw a 5-2 lead. Pyatt closed out the scoring with his 32nd goal of the season on a power play at 12:34 of the third and finished the game with a plus-2 rating.
