The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, cruised to a fifth consecutive victory on Friday night, beating the Worcester Sharks 3-1 in Worcester to move within one game of the .500 mark. Ryan Callahan, who recently returned to Hartford after a brief stint with the Rangers, opened the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 10:27 of the first period. Callahan's team-leading 16th goal of the season made it 1-0, and the Pack stretched the lead to 2-0 when Lauri Korpikoski, the game's No. 1 star, scored the eventual game-winner at 12:56 of the second period. Dane Byers and Daniel Girardi assisted on Korpikoski's fourth goal of the season. Craig Weller completed the scoring with an unassisted empty net goal with 1:04 remaining in the game. No. 2 star Stephen Valiquette continued his outstanding play in goal for Hartford, making 18 saves for the win. Hartford is now 10-11-1 on the season. The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, were shut out by the Texas Wildcatters 4-0 on Friday night in Texas. The Wildcatters' Daniel Sparre had a natural hat trick in the third period. The Checkers outshot the Wildcatters 53-26, but Texas netminder Matt Yeats stopped all 53 shots to earn No. 1 star honors ahead of Sparrre. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt made 22 saves for Charlotte, which had lost to the Wildcatters in overtime earlier in the week. The Checkers are now 11-9-1 and in fifth place in the American Conference's South Division. For more information, visit the Checkers' official site.
